I’m sure shuffling the holidays around will be the perfect cure to long term critical underinvestment.

Incorrect. Just pointing out that the information is in the article if you want to understand more.

England should ditch its school calendar “stuck in place since Victorian times” and replace it with shorter summer holidays and longer half-term breaks to improve the lives of pupils and teachers, according to a new report.

      From the first paragraph.

The report on tackling post-pandemic education inequalities, to be published by the Nuffield Foundation next month, is to recommend an overhaul of the school calendar that could see summer holidays in state schools reduced from six weeks to four, while half-term breaks in autumn and winter could each be extended from one week to two.

      From the second paragraph.

The call for changes follows proposals by the Welsh government for changes to its school year starting in 2025-26

Are the Tories also in charge of education in Wales? 🤔

As a parent I’m not opposed to this. My child gets 6/7/8 weeks off and it’s going to be an absolute nightmare to sort out childcare when her youngest brother is also at school (currently my partner is off work on the days I work so it’s not an issue).

Both sets of grandparents work and we’re not really in a position to pay for childcare or any of those holiday clubs. Not to mention that after 4 weeks the kids are bored out of their minds.

Much prefer the shorter and longer half term breaks.

I work in hospitality on the continent and longer, more spread-out half term holidays would be a fucking godsend for all concerned

Worst time of the year, especially if your clients are Brits
