Vampire Survivors devs launch official wiki “free of ads, banners, and all of the junk that gets in your way,” joining Stardew Valley and Terraria in community wikis with minimal intrusions

Vampire Survivors developer Poncle has just launched a new official wiki for the viral roguelike, which promises an ad-free browsing experience. You can browse the new Vampire Survivors wiki here. Official Vampire Survivors Wiki | OUT NOW - YouTube Watch OnThe wiki most Vampire Survivors fans would have previously been checking would likely have been the unofficial one hosted by Fandom. The Vampire Survivors devs are in good company in working with the community on an official wiki. Back in 2022, Terraria developer Re-Logic distanced itself from the game’s Fandom, launching a new official option with minimal ad intrusions. 🖊️️🤖

How is GOG Galaxy Still Not On Linux?

If you do want that integrated all-in-one experience of a client, GOG does have its own client known as GOG Galaxy you can download to manage your games. There’s just one problem though, one problem that gives a lot of otherwise-interested Linux users some hesitation in fully switching over to buying their games on GOG. Try to see if you can spot it in this picture:That’s right, GOG Galaxy doesn’t support Linux. Obviously Windows is dominant, but what’s really telling is how there’s a larger share of Linux users than Mac users. And while you could argue Linux users do have other community-made clients available to them such as Lutris (which do support GOG games), these aren’t a full replacement. 🖊️️🤖

Indie devs have begun adding a no generative AI stamp to their store pages

AI this, AI that - you can’t go anywhere without something trying to force AI on you. So indie devs have begun fighting back with their No Gen AI Seal. Announced by Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou of Polygon Treehouse (Mythwrecked & Röki) on Bluesky, they’ve launched the free to use No Gen AI Seal available via the Polygon Treehouse website. Perhaps in future we might see stores add specific filters to select “No Gen AI”. There’s a lot of silliness going around like how Phil Spencer of Microsoft Gaming thinks generative AI will help game preservation and the Take-Two CEO believing AI will increase employment and productivity. 🖊️️🤖

Super Smash Bros. creator says instead of making more “Americanized works,” Japanese devs should “seek the uniqueness and fun of Japanese games”

Masahiro Sakurai, the legendary mind behind Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the beloved 25-year-old series behind it, thinks developers in Japan should focus on creating more games “that Japanese people like” after a shift to “Americanized works.” “It’s not really my own idea,” reveals the director, “but as an industry trend, I think Japanese people should keep pursuing the things that Japanese people like.” He doesn’t think that the overseas market is actually searching for this more “Americanized,” filtered experience, however, “but rather, I think that they seek the uniqueness and fun of Japanese games.” Masahiro Sakurai says Super Smash Bros “might have died out” if not for late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata: “There’s no doubt that he influenced me in many ways” 🖊️️🤖

EA releases source code for four Command & Conquer games

Video game preservation scored a win today with EA’s decision to make four Command & Conquer games open source. The company has released the source code for Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade and Command & Conquer: Generals through a GPL license. In addition, EA is adding Steam Workshop support to more contemporary entries in the real-time strategy franchise, including a modding support pack with assets from the series titles on the SAGE engine, such as Command & Conquer Red Alert 3. (Plus, never forget that Red Alert 3 also contains the single best line delivery in all of video game history.) EA released meticulous remasters of the first two installments of Command & Conquer in 2020 , which included the release of those games’ source code. 🖊️️🤖

Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the other new games out this week

The new game releases this week may look a little familiar, but all of them attempt to push their genres or series in new directions. Oh, and there’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows at the end of the week, with a story set in feudal Japan and a whole base-building system. But that will come after Pathologic 3, which starts the week off with another macabre story of death and decay. MLB The Show 25 promises a bunch of new additions to the series, including that roguelike board game mode. And if sports aren’t for you, Reignbreaker is a game that mixes medieval weaponry with a bit of cyberpunk. 🖊️️🤖

The Brief History of Motion Sensor Aiming in Video Games

In this mode, you can look around from Link’s perspective, and motion aiming is back. Motion Aiming is used, but unlike Nintendo’s implementation of Motion Aiming in the Wii era and Ocarina of Time 3D, you can finally use the Right Stick to move the camera. Here comes the recycled paragraph…and it also heavily relies on Motion Controls due to the focus on 360-degree flight. It is playable without Motion Aiming and you can turn it off in the settings, but you practically need Motion Aiming for traversal. (ironically, Wii U Gamepad works better there than handhelds)Unlike Intu-Aiming (which uses ADS for Motion Aiming), Splatoon opts for “Always-On” Motion Aiming. 🖊️️🤖
