The productive force of humanity is awe-inspiring. Cars suck, but the existence of an interstate system, this national rail system, and more wonders really goes to show the greatness that is the human species. Each and everyone of us is awesome and capable of amazing things. Let’s make a world that will allow us to comrades.
“But at what cost!?”
“China violently supressing working class automotive workers”!
At America’s cost 😆
Looking at a map of China, I always have a bit of appreciation for how well they’ve integrated the indigenous names of all the cities.
For example, Urumqi wasn’t always known as Urumqi: under Qing rule, it was relabeled as Dihua, a name it held until the CPC took power.
A little bit of contrast to the Russian approach and a huge contrast to the American/British approach of just renaming everything.
Soviet Union also did something similar like renaming Verny to Alma-Ata, but pretty inconsistent overall.
For sure, keeping the names that people of the region use makes the most sense.
Hot damn that’s impressive.
It’s like the US building interstates in the mid 20th century, except like, actually cool.
Haha yup
That’s actually insane progress for 12 years
absolutely inconceivable in any western country
USA: America is too big for high speed rail to work
China: haha rail construction go brrrrrrr
For reference, the United States and China have approximately equal land area, so this comparison is pretty valid.
In addition, China has a lot of very challenging terrain compared to the US.
