    The timeline of every company:

    we don’t collect data

    we collect data but don’t sell it

    we only share your data with our “partners,” no you can’t have a list.

    we have your data, and now we are going to change our policies so that we can sell it to anyone. Whatever we said in the past is void. We’ve been collecting and selling this entire time.

        I wonder how many of them just wanted to sell the data, so they did and claimed to have been hacked to get by without appearing to have violated the TOC.

    I get the feeling you can count all the tech companies who do not sell your data on one hand. With no fingers.

      We should be demanding changes to consumer laws. Any changes to the TnC that are not agreed to by existing customers should result in a full refund, irrespective of how long the customer has owned the product. If I’ve had a Bluetooth speaker for ten years and the manufacturer suddenly decides to sell my data, I want my money and my data back.

        By then, the customers will already have amassed a ton of data on the servers. No real way to prove they’ve actually deleted it, and we’ve heard the ‘anonymized’, ‘no identifying data’ and ‘marked for deletion’ lines before.

        Just don’t trust your data with corporations. It’s that simple. Except when it isn’t.

        Learn about single use emails on sign up, and don’t get attached to your accounts. If theres an equivalent for phone numbers, someone pls share.

    I just send a lengthy note explaining in explicit detail how I can never again recommend their products to any of my friends and family unless they reverse these changes as well as exercising my privacy rights to obtain and restrict the sale / transfer / use of my personal data.

    I would recommend anyone else who has an account do the same. We’ve got to at least make our displeasure and unwillingness to be a repeat customer known.
