But you still need an account or no? I’ll just buy something else, giving Meta any money is both completely avoidable and morally correct.

You definitely will. This requirement effectively bricked my OG Quest since I refuse to have anything to do with Facebook. I really need to look into side-loading and/or firmware projects around it. They broke the promise that they would never require a Facebook account and somehow the justice system said, yeah, but this is a Meta account, so it’s all cool…

FU Meta - you’ll never see another dollar from me. In fact you owe me $400.

I’m just pissed I can’t use my rift without needing to sell my privacy for a useless garbage account that will only provide me with firmware.

Any time any company claims their account system wont change, right before acquisition, you can give it a solid year, and then it inevitably does

There are some smart people that are making the rift-s work on linux using Monado. As I currently understand it, good 6dof controller tracking is the final roadblock to it being fully usable. LVRA wiki has more information about this kind of stuff.

Huh, guess I got the better deal with the Quest 1. It’s just bugging me to login. But I can still use it with sideloaded apks and PCVR via ALVR.
