A CNN investigation finds Airbnb fails to protect its guests against the persistent threat within its industry.
the issue is, airbnb can never protect against that. The only thing i believe they should do, is informing about this when booking and maybe linking scanners, that can scan rooms for cameras.
According to court records, an Airbnb representative sought permission to report their complaint to the host, a man named A. Jay Allee. “Do you mind if we contact the host and get his side of the story?” Wyzynajtys recalled the Airbnb representative asking in the message.
They should also contact police rather than alert hosts that their spy cameras have been detected
Your mileage may vary but check this out. You can try to use your phone camera to look for these, or scan WiFi as mentioned.
Certainly not foolproof, but may give you piece of mind if you enjoy AirBnBs.
I would hope high rated places wouldn’t risk this or that AirBnB would punish them greatly if discovered, but who am I kidding?!?
Good advice especially for infrared cameras. The main issue with scanning the network, through, is most airbnbs I’ve stayed in have a separate guest network. Those hidden cameras wouldn’t be on it
Airbnb is pretty much dead. I don’t see the benefit over a hotel. Unless it is some remote place with great views there is no point
I was already assuming there are cameras, but at least it’s confirmed. Protect yourself, folks. Act as its you’re being recorded. Does that suck? Yup. Change under towels or something of the like… Have the sex under covers…etc. You can never expect privacy. If you followed what Edward Snowden released at all, you should understand that this includes your own phone. It’s just the world we now live in.
