I’m taking my final exam Friday and then I’m finally done my post-grad infosec program after 2 years of work. I’m VERY broke rn tho so I won’t have much time to relax before looking for work. Thinking of getting rid of discord for the rest of the year. Hearing election shit from american radlibs 24/7 has been extremely grating.

You won’t know what to do with yourself when the studies are over, even with the job hunt. Well done for getting through it and good luck for Friday!

Thanks! I’m a dilettante at heart and I still need my CISSP after this so the studying will continue probably until I’m dead lol. Still, being done with grades and having some kind of official expertise to offer will be nice.

I’m similar. Never stop studying! I’m too curious to not be looking into something all the time.

For every Tesla I see in Mexico(CDMX), there are 5 BYD within my view. Interesting how BYD is slowly taking the EV market in Mexico.

I got a new one yesterday. White guy in Hong Kong says to me “no you mustn’t eat pork when you go to the Mainland, that’s how they hide the bodies.” This was from someone who takes as a point of pride that they read the NYT cover-to-cover every day, but idk where they got this gem from.

So in case anyone’s wondering, according to this guy the “CCP” has been promoting pork as a major part of Chinese cuisine (Which Chinese cuisine you ask? All of them) because it tastes similar to human flesh. He says “you’ve got to tip your hat to them” because it’s evil genius: it lets them hide evidence of their crimes and it solves famine issues.

The best bit, he then says to me, dead serious: “how else do you think North Korea did so well in the Olympics?”

Rereading Heretics of Dune, and I’m reminded why it’s my favorite of all the dune books. Even from the first third or so, from Odrade, it’s got a personal aspect that the first few books lacked (which doesn’t make them any less good of course)

Ngl even felt emotional when Palestinian music came on. Danced with some people to it and it was beautiful. Just the raw emotion that happened was overhwelming. Free Palestine forever.

I’ve been playing FF15 and decided to switch the language to English out of curiosity. Gotta say, this might be a rare Spanish translation W. Some things that stand out:

    • every quest rhymes in Spanish while most don’t have any wordplay in English
    • Noct’s magic abilities are in Latin in Spanish, but have generic names in English
    • Many abilities have different descriptions so one or both of these languages must be wrong

Also the summons are called the Sidereals instead of the Hexatheon, the royal weapons have unique names and are called the Spectral Chorus instead of the Armiger, and the Chocobo post is called la Chocoberiza (a play on caballeriza).

Ah, by magic abilities I mean the special powers he gets from his royal bloodline. In Spanish it’s called the gift of Lux and every related skill has that moniker: warping is called Lux Impetus, perfect guards are called Lux Custodia, the thing that distracts enemies is called Lux Fatua, etc.

I’m not sure what spells are called in either language because I never bothered to craft any of them.

Interesting to hear the English version isn’t as good. I played through with the voices mostly muted and all text in Spanish, so I only saw the poetic side. I can’t wait to have some free time again. All your analyses are making me want to jump back into it. There’s something about FF games that grows on you even if you didn’t quite enjoy it as expected the first time round. Maybe because they’re so immersive?

Did you play in Spanish Spanish or in Latino Spanish? Because I’ve been messing around with languages and found some interesting differences between the two. And do you know how to make tables in Lemmy?, because I might post about it…

And I agree, this game really grew on me too! I thought the main characters were tropey at first but they’ve endeared themselves to me since. I can overlook all the game’s jank because the boys are just that precious. I spent two hours running around in circles with them with illegible text and I’d do it again.

Spanish Spanish. I’m not sure how to make tables. There’s some info here on markdown but it doesn’t cover tables: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/02-media.html

I did read on a hexbear post that you can just copy tables in from open office. I’m unsure if it works or what is limitations are.

Agree about the characters, too. It’s the friendships that hooked me in earlier FFs.

A man was found supposedly murdered in my city’s park the other day. He was found with his hands and feet tied together. Police immediately started an investigation.

He was identified today as a 26 year old Palestinian. The city’s park is in the middle of the city’s Jewish district coincidentally.

Police is still investigating the cause of the murder.

After seeing clips from that Democrat convention, this really makes me sick… Things are only going to get worse. If Palestinians have been abandoned by the liberals then we need to make sure that they are safe in our communities

One of our party’s founders, Jo Cottenier, sadly passed away today at age 70. He saw the party grow from a niche ML student club into a serious communist party with tens of thousands of members. Rest in Power.
