Excerpt from Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood:
“This is the latest,” said Crake.
What they were looking at was a large bulblike object that seemed to be covered with stippled whitish-yellow skin. Out of it came twenty thick fleshy tubes, and at the end of each tube another bulb was growing.
“What the hell is it?” said Jimmy.
“Those are chickens,” said Crake. "Chicken parts. Just the breasts, on this one. They’ve got ones that specialize in drumsticks too, twelve to a growth unit.
“But there aren’t any heads…”
“That’s the head in the middle,” said the woman. “There’s a mouth opening at the top, they dump nutrients in there. No eyes or beak or anything, they don’t need those.”
Mmmmm eating chickiknobs in the plebelands.
I really wanted to like that book, but aggressively making points I agree with just wasn’t enough
Perplexingly they’re bred to maximize the size of the worst meat; the breast.
Worst how? Just being tasteless?
Yep, low in flavor and easy to overcook.
To me it has a better texture. I wouldn’t say it’s the worst.
I rarely have problems overcooking chicken.
Great source of protein though. Just need to be more careful and creative
Thought about this today! I was sitting by a rainy creek and a couple of turkeys landed nearby. “That’s a turkey! They’re tiny!”
(Don’t think we have the big honkers the Yankees have. They’re small and drab down here, at least I’ve never seen a big, colorful one.)
Lol. Pretty sure those were just female turkeys.
A jake is also a bit more sleek, you may just not seen a tom yet.
It just started going to the gym
Dude can’t even do math. The chicken is like ten bucks.
Bro Brogan
I have been watching Newsradio after seeing a very funny clip, which has Joe Rogan as the IT/maintenance guy. He’s not very funny, but I was surprised it was the same guy as I had only ever heard of him as a podcaster.
Yep that’s where he first broke containment
