After the original mod being inactive for so long, i’ve asked the db0 mods for me to take this community. So, welcome back!

Rules

This includes the instance rules of dbzer0, which can be tl;dr’d to: no right wing nutjobs or tankies are allowed. As for the community rules:

  1. Be nice
  2. No bigotry/prejudice
  3. No tankies/right wingers
  4. Don’t promote proprietary software
  5. Stay on topic
  6. No crypto
  7. If you post news exclusive to a country please name it. (This isn’t a bannable rule, but just a recommendation :) )

Why not:

Lemmy.ml

.ml is infamous for banning pretty much anyone they please. This community, while left libertarian, will allow conflicting viewpoints.

Lemmy.world

.world is too big, and has centralized a decentralized community. It simply does not fit, and is a net negative for the fediverse as a whole.

I will be creating a wiki/guide for this community later on, but i’m currently busy.

Banning by instance achieves nothing but further alienation.

Let them be, just don’t hesitate to ban those who poison the conversation.

That’s what I thought, but I don’t want them to get the idea that they’re welcome, only tolerated.

Perhaps I will make a pinned post if it ever becomes a problem.

I agree with the person above. Let them be. No need to do instance-based discrimination

I have edited the top comment, #1 is now the rule.

I think I will keep the no tankies rule, but ar long as they don’t explicitly act like one they will be fine.

Thank you for your service, Sir!!!

.ml was robust community when I joined, but I have a feeling that constant banning of talent really hurtnthe discourse.

I am hoping we can pick up these discussions here on current best practice.

Remember folks, deny the corporate parasite engagement and profit 🐸

Regarding rule 3, what about things like VPN and email services that have proprietary components?

Exceptions may be made, such as source available/some proprietary components but promoting completely proprietary software is not allowed

Mullvad has wireguard, and a open source client but the backend code is closed source. Would that be allowed?

Is there anything in privacy guides that wouldn’t be allowed?

MV Is fine since it’s trustworthy. As for PrivacyGuides the only thing that is not allowed is the crypto section.

There is only one crypto recommend, monero. But that is totally open source.

Should there be another community rule to explicitly forbid crypto discussion?

Ex Mullvad accepts crypto payments, that might come up in a discussion as well

Its of the instance rules, but I will add an explicit rule forbidding it.

Monero is the best of the worst, but it’s still crypto, and damages the environment heavily (it also has the downside of attracting alt right users, so that’s a no go)

That sounds like one of those internet-only words from people who are socially crippled and live exclusively on the internet and not enough time outside meeting atrangers to socialize

That sounds like a bad faith answer to begin with.

But it’s a term used for at least half a century. In the context of Lemmy, you’ll likely be seen as a tankie of you:

          • Use every opportunity to promote China or Russia and/or claim China/Russia is truly socialist
          • Throw tantrums at everyone who is not far left
          • Advocate for authoritarian left regimes

Don’t worry, i banned him. Later he replied to me arguing about the “no anti science” point lmao

It sounds like essentially “Do not post anything that expresses a different opinion.” and the “No anti-science topics” sounds like “Do not post documentation that proves our belief is false or wrong.”

            Clearly he’s just a troll.

It’s a real term dating back to 1956, and it’s a bannable offense by instance rules.

          The instance’s rules are:

          • Nothing positive or promoting cryptocurrency, blockchain or NFTs
          • Nothing extreme-right-wing. This includes conspiracy theories, SovCit, Pro-Police, AnCaps etc. We’ll know it when I see it, don’t test us!
          • No anti-science topics.
          • No Tankie shit.
          • No TERFs.
          • No Porn.

Just don’t bootlick regimes, is it that hard?

And no anti science doesn’t mean spiritual stuff and such, it means doing shit like denying vaccines or being a QAnon nut job. There’s even a Catholic comm on the instance.

You’re complicating this for nobody but yourself.

Wasn’t much internet in 1956, but yeah

I hadn’t heard it before I joined Lemmy either.

          Well now you know
