late 2019, bought a used ASUS ROG laptop with a GTX1070. The LCD screen fucking sucks, because it gets all fucky when it heats and guess what? All the computer heat is blasted on it.

Still worth it, tho. I was sporting an old, 2012 ASUS Ultrabook with a GT 740M card and since I was doing lots of 3D printing, the older computer was struggling with files over 20MB (models with over 400k vertices, give or take)

Used to have a GTX 1060. It served me well for several years. Went with a used RTX 4060 just last week. The difference was staggering. It was worth it for the price. It’ll last me just as long as the 1060 did.

2018 or so when I moved and bought myself a new computer. GTX 1080Ti for $680 and honestly it’s been great. Been able to run every game I’ve wanted with pretty decent performance.

I upgraded from a GTX 1650 4Gb to an RTX 3070 8Gb. The difference was night and day, DLSS upscaling has made 4k gaming possible, even on my aging hardware.

More recently I’ve added the old GPU back in for CUDA applications and a boatload of additional DRAM, I wish SLI weren’t dead 😅 that’d be fun.

Went from a 460gtx which was really showing its age to a rtx3060ti but mobile. I almost bought a completely new system with the new 9070xt, like I have the spare cash at hand, but then last night put up the PCSX2 emulator with some god of war and I still cannot justify that expense, for now…

From a 970gtx with an incredibly annoying and loud blower fan design to a 2080rtx in the middle of the initial shitcoin mining craze. The price made me sick at the time but after watching it climb and not stop it was a great purchase in hindsight. Still going strong today but starting to really show its age.

Currently wondering about the 9070xt but the local retailers have replaced the scalpers themselves…

Switched my GTX 1060 3 Gb for a RX 6750XT. Night and day. The old GTX also found a new home on my home server where it rocks doing hardware encoding/decoding.

In 2023 I upgraded from a 1060 to a 4080. It wasn’t cheap but I figure I should be good for the next 5-7 years or more.

About two years ago, from 2080ti to 4080. Nothing nvidia makes is “worth it” but I do use it a lot on a 77" 4k OLED TV and pretty much all games I play run quite well with all the goodies turned on (which includes DLSS, usually Quality, and framegen sometimes which can let me run DLAA), so in that sense I at least get some good mileage out of it.

My power bill is not great…

970 -> 3070. Worth it for performance, not worth it buying a gpu in peak covid/crypto gold rush. 3070 handles everything I need for now. I’ll probably look for a cheap 4080 in a few yeas.

I went from a 750M (my laptop, that I still have) to a RX580. It’s starting to show its age but I haven’t encountered a game that’s unplayable yet.

Had the rx580 for years, great graphics card. Reliable, good value, in my rig not too loud. Gave it to my brother in law last year, his daughter is still very happy with it.

Still sitting on a GTX 1660. I want to update but it’s fine and hasn’t been a priority. I want to update more for local AI than graphics performance.

In 2022, I upgraded from a 750ti to an RTX 2060 (12gb). The 750ti was such an incredible budget GPU back in the day, and it served me well for many years. I just fear that the days of good budget GPUs are long gone.

Went from a custom 1070Ti with an ASUS closed loop AIO and NZXT G12 to the 4070 Dual.

I’ve noticed a bit higher frame rates in demanding games which I can now all play on ultra. Worth it? Not really, no.
