you’re dumb if you think American companies won’t find excuses to fuck with American consumers for profit. America is a land where morons blame regulation for things while corporations have been controlling the policy for decades and laugh as people play diversion for them often for free.

Umm… I don’t think you understood my criticism at all.

The regulations we have categorize cars by size. They impose their strictest standards on the smallest cars. The smaller you make a car, the tighter the standards you have to meet.

They measure “size” as the area of the rectangle formed by the wheelbase. So, they stretch the wheelbase, pushing the wheels out toward the corners. They are making them wider, approaching a square wheelbase, because that maximizes area relative to weight. Our current NHTSA regulations promote the larger, boxier vehicles manufacturers are producing for the US, and thus the North American market.

We need regulation that favors the smallest cars and trucks. We need regulation that makes the smallest car in their lineup the most profitable, and the largest the least profitable for them to produce.

They need to “fuck with American consumers” by making cars smaller, not larger.
