    The story of a single Viking warrior holding Stamford Bridge is a legendary part of the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066. According to accounts, a Viking warrior, possibly armed with a Dane Axe, defended the bridge against the advancing English army, delaying their progress. The legend claims he cut down up to 40 English soldiers before being killed by a spear thrust from beneath the bridge.
