Europe community on dbzer0. Intended to be a place to discuss European news,
politics, or just general topics from a European perspective. Since this is on
dbzer0 expect the community to lean more leftist-anarchist but a wide range of
views are accepted here (within reason). Rules: ::: spoiler 1. No Bigotry or
Hate Speech Any forms of Homophobia, Transphobia, Queerphobia, Racism, or
Ableism will be met with swift and harsh action and will not be tolerated here
whatsoever. Bigots will be banned immediately on-sight. This includes apologia
of it. Trying to be politely or intellectually bigoted i.e. “Just asking
questions” won’t be tolerated. ::: ::: spoiler 2. No Zionism Any forms of
Zionism or Zionist rhetoric will not be tolerated here, this includes Zionist
apologia, accusations of antisemitism towards anti-Zionists, or blatant denial
or downplaying of the genocide towards Palestinians. Any attempt to uphold or
prop up the IHRA definition of antisemitism, will be treated as Zionism. Anyone
engaging in Pro-Zionist sentiment or apologia will be actioned in accordance
with its severity. Note: Trying to find loopholes or whataboutery to see what is
or isn’t genocide denial or Zionism will be treated as a violation of this rule.
Don’t test us. ::: ::: spoiler 3. Stay Civil Please maintain civil discourse in
the community. Do not engage in arguments with others, name-calling, or insults.
Note that calling out bigotry or Zionism is not considered an insult. In heated
arguments users are encouraged to or even required to disengage
[https://wiki.dbzer0.com/divisions-by-zero/the-disengage-rule/] failure to do so
will result in mod action. ::: ::: spoiler 4. No Misinformation Spreading of
misinformation intentionally in this community is unacceptable and will not be
tolerated. Spreading misinformation hurts the credibility of the community and
can mislead people sometimes in dangerous ways. Users who intentionally post
misinformation as articles, comment answers, or in attempt to win arguments will
be actioned swiftly. Note: This includes Russian and Chinese propaganda. Users
with a history of such posting will be banned on sight. ::: ::: spoiler 5. No AI
Content Please do not post articles or content primarily created using
generative AI. Generative AI content may contain misinformation or be lower
quality and thus is discouraged. Posts and comments featuring it will be
removed. However this community does not allow or tolerate Anti-AI trolling or
hostility and users who engage in such behavior will be actioned for it,
additionally Anti-AI trolling violates Rule 3 and often Rule 4 so it is
generally unacceptable already. ::: -------------------------------------- Note:
Rules 1 & 2 may be subject to preemptive mod action due to their severity, and
they apply to a user’s entire post history. Not just this community.
I recently created a Europe community on lemmy.dbzer0.com to act as an alternative to the Europe community on Feddit.org since that one has had some controversy and is becoming less viable for discussing current events in Europe, especially relating to Israel.
The new community allows much of the same content as on the old one but also allows news and discussions related to the conflict in Israel and disallows genocide apologia (can’t believe I have to advertise this as a feature).
If that sounds like something you’re interested in I urge you to check out [email protected]
Having the modlog actions being publicly visible doesn’t mean there isn’t or can’t be controversy. FYI there has been controversy with how both europe on Feddit and Feddit themselves have chosen to moderate and how they’ve responded to the situation. It’s well documented and compiled at [email protected] so I won’t go into detail here but suffice to say if you think there isn’t controversy and drama on Lemmy you’ve either been living under a rock or really don’t understand how social dynamics play out on social platforms.
I see some people confused about how AutoMod works here on Lemmy,
people rage-baiting each other and we can discuss that. I always think it’s super distasteful when the topic is actual people loosing their lives, so I might be okay with the mods cracking down on that. It might be tricky though for the mods to get it right.
And then I see some people whining about posts getting locked? And I don’t get that. Seems they’re in a transitioning period with their moderation. And locking means they didn’t even delete anything.
So there’s a huge pile of misinformation there. Maybe there’s a few warranted complains buried underneath that, but I didn’t find them. Most of the deleted posts are from super agitated people anyways, contain a lot of words like “idiots”, swearwords and personal attacks. And that’s generally what we moderate here on Lemmy.
Idk, are you pro or contra deleting stuff and banning people? Because you yourself sure seem to be quick with the ban-hammer and handing out false accusations?!
That particular user who was banned for sockpuppeting has made literal hundreds of accounts, they were originally known as Antiyanks. They’ve been making new accounts constantly since 7 months ago so they can avoid being banned for treating people like garbage and accusing them of supporting genocide without any sort of merit to it.
The comments weren’t removed for what they said, they were removed because the user is a serial ban evader who makes accounts just to harass people and it’s clear by now that they have no intent of participating in good faith. They just want to yell at people.
The people who constantly post about Gaza in every single thread are the worst in this regard. While yes, the genocide isn’t okay and it should be discussed, there’s a time and place and it doesn’t need to be brought up everywhere in every discussion. Many of them are needlessly hostile when this is brought up to them and you just get labeled a genocide supporter. Sometimes I just want to scroll and read threads without hearing about children dying all the time. Gaza is their entire personality and it seems like nothing else matters to them in their lives.
If that’s the case, then the evidence connecting those accounts to “Antiyanks” is what the admin should’ve cited, not a bunch of examples of comments that were – considered on their face without context – mostly actually pretty reasonable positions to take.
As it stands now, I have little reason to believe that I could post “just create a secular state that respects people’s right” on that instance without risking a ban.
Idk man. Sockpuppeting and brigading means there are a bunch of users who all create multiple accounts with the sole purpose of evading moderation and in this case be hostile towards the place. It’s notoriously annoying to deal with that as a mod. And people do things like “walking the line”. Stay just an inch below the threshold of open toxicity with a new comment, so it’d technically be allowed. It’s still abusive behaviour, though. And IMO deletion is warranted. The content itself (what you spoke about in that comment) isn’t itself the important thing if we already know it’s from someone doing ban-evasion and bending and breaking the rules. The question is just whether these are sockpuppet accounts. The mods say so and it’s not really disputed by anyone, at least not in that thread, in fact the brigade or alts seem to then pop up in yepowertrippingbastards, so I have a hunch that the mods were right.
I guess I didn’t know Lemmy’s moderation tools were still that bad and it’s a decent chunk of transparency missing in the modlog. That’s not a good thing. Though I feel none of this drama is really “good”. Complaining about mods and then making an “alternative” with even more strict moderation is a bit silly if you ask me, I’m not sure whether this is a joke or not. But I get that this isn’t about free speech, but some petty feud in miniature, and about having a home-base for the brigade.
Even if it’s true that they were sockpuppeting, then the other important question becomes why did they feel the need to evade moderation in the first place? If it’s because their reasonable and legitimate comments opposing genocide were getting removed because some biased mod falsely equated anti-zionism with anti-Semitism, it’s the mod that’s being toxic, not the users.
They got banned originally for being a troll and harassing people, which they’ve continued to do through alt accounts for months. Their comments were anything but reasonable and not at all respectful.
On the flipside, two wrongs almost never make a right. You can however stir up some internet conflict that way. So either it’s true and they’re wrong. Or it’s wrong and everyone is wrong here… But you’re not solving anything.

you put an extra “p” in there, I think you meant [email protected]
Thanks, just fixed it.

Thanks for the link.

Here’s an example of the sort of comments that were unjustly being removed, as cited by one of the feddit.org admins himself. He thinks he was in the right, claiming that some of the comments were from “sockpuppet accounts,” but as I said in reply in that thread, removing comments saying things like “just create a secular state that respects people’s right” should’ve been their “are we the baddies?” realization moment.

I know exactly how you really are, Antiyanks. So does everyone else. You aren’t fooling anyone.
You’re an inhumane piece of shit badfaithfully refusing to recognize some of us have friends and loved ones in area that are getting bombed.
If the americans dem voters were not fucking little cowards like yourself they might have considered the electoral implications of bombing civilians.
You can call me whatever names you want, bud. I hope it makes you feel better.
What would make me feel better is if the mods stopped putting more efforts into banning me than deleting genocide apologists.
Of course you do you fucking creep.
I wouldn’t have to re-create accounts all the time if people like you weren’t following me around to harassment.
Obsessed much?
