Its not even a question of ethics per se to me. Many people have mentioned it but im not sure how many may not get it. Due process is a right that only works when applied to all. Its the process of discovery and determination to find out what is what. So anyone gets deported who they want if due process is not a thing. One funny thing is when the sactuary state governors were brought to dc one of the better arguments came from the chair of the committee who “grilled” pritzker with something about an illegal immigrant who killed a girl. Its like yeah as a monday morning quarter back your really doing well. It starts as a crime was committed. Due process determines if a suspect likely did it and who they are including citizenship status. Without due process a girl gets killed and a politician points to an undesirable and goes they did it now go kill them or rendition them or whateves.
I’ve heard the rights given to people as god given rights by republican types so I don’t think in that regard the government shouldn’t be able to take away what it didn’t give in the first place unless the government can supersede god
That would go into Natural Rights theory, which the US Declaration of Independence supports, but the US Constitution explicitly denies by legitimising slavery.
