I think “end support” in the title is misleading. From the article:

Based on Apple’s warning, you can expect that macOS 27 will drop support for all of these legacy machines, and therefore macOS 26 will be the last compatible version. These devices will continue to receive security updates for another three years, however.

Unless your parents want the latest features they’ll probably be fine for a few more years.

I’ll make Debian servers out of recycle your old intel Macs for you! Just pay to ship them to me. 🥰

        Absolutely!

I love giving old hardware a new life.

Once I’ve finished tinkering, and if it’s fully functional, I give them to poor families who can’t afford to buy a laptop for their kids.

Sadly, there are a lot of those here in Appalachia.

Yeah, the ones with dead ports become part of my network as either storage or some sort of home server.

Recently bought a 2015 MacBook with great specs, running Ventura via OCLP and purring like a kitten 👌

They supported Intel Macs for 4 years now. I wish it was a little longer. This will probably shutdown Hackintosh and OpenCore Legacy Patcher updates.

Brand new apple products will be unusable by 2028 with the recent locking down of the operating systems. Keep using your old hardware.

I’m looking at the Pinetime, Fairphone and Framework when I need to upgrade next time.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the mainstream android phone manufacturers do the same unless you used a custom rom when ever possible.

That’s why we should prioritize manufacturers such as Fairphone with unlocked bootloaders while doing more to support Ubuntu Touch, Postmarket OS, Mobian, /e/ OS and Graphene OS.

“supported” because too many developers (especially apple) only target the latest and greatest

Safari in particular will stop getting new updates except if it has a security issue

I have an m3 pro MBP but I’m still sad about the end of Intel support just for what it means about Hackintosh
