I hate this idea that it’s so easy to get disability benefits you can just fake it
This is 100% what radicalized me. My first job out of college was in Mental Health and I ended up working with several clients on SSI/SSDI or applying for it. Its absolutely inhumane how many hoops they make people jump through. How you still have to use your tiny amount of monthly money to pay for section 8. The exhaustion and depression this brought my clients pained me immensely. I take disability so much more seriously now. I understand how awful chronic pain can be, even if it doesn’t present visibly to others. I genuinely hope you get what you need for your case. We will tear down these systems one day, but until then I sincerely hope things are manageable for you
Thank you. Unfortunately some professionals still don’t get it, even when it’s right in front of their face. I was recently having some useless mental health therapy, I just stuck it out to help my benefit appeal. The therapist was awful in so many ways. When I told her how fearful i was of becoming homeless if I lose my appeal, she just said “Don’t worry if you become homeless I’ll put you in touch with a homeless shelter,” like it was no big deal at all. When I didn’t want to continue her shitty therapy she threatened to call the benefits people and tell them I wasn’t continuing with it, which could have adversely affected my appeal so I stuck the therapy out to the end even though it was making me worse, not better.
