Renault EV’s have their own variation of magnetless EV motors that they install on all their EV. So they need less (now very expensive) rare earth metals.
Please forgive my ignorance in this topic. I was under the impression that rare earths were mostly used in batteries and not necessarily in electric motors.
Most EVs use permanent magnet (neodymium) motors because they’re more efficient.
I assume every modern electric motor like this has a built in control and monitoring circuit, but yeah idk what else could be rare earths.
Magnets. Electric motors tend to use permanent magnets.
