The keen of you will have noticed that, unlike Monday and Tuesday, I didn’t make a discussion post today about the Speaker’s race. It was my full intention to do so, however, news broke this morning that the GOP nominee, Jim Jordan, scrapped his plans for a vote this afternoon.

A deal empowering Speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry was speculated to be a potential “out” for the 18 GOP congresspersons who represent Biden-won districts, however after a 3-hour closed-door meeting today, the GOP was still undecided.

Tonight, Jim Jordan has announced plans for a third ballot, which he believes will take place 10:00 AM (EST) on Friday.

I feel like the Dems have an opportunity. They already got the demonstration that Republicans are in chaos. Now I think the Dems would be better served to work with moderate Republicans to get a moderate Republican into the speaker role and be able to deliver the message that while the Republicans are in meltdown, Democrats are ready to get the work done.

      moderate Republicans

Those don’t exist though… at least not in terms of the elected ones. The party line these days is to support MAGA extremism; the ones that buck it get tossed out.

Any Democrat who is willing to roll over for the GOP and then inevitably get stabbed in the back (and please, don’t insult everyone’s intelligence by pretending they won’t) will get rightfully destroyed in their next primary.
