The CNN poll also asked voters about potential replacements for Biden. Harris fared the best, trailing Trump by only two points, 47 percent to 45 percent, within the margin of error.

Several other prominent Democrats outperformed Biden in polling, including Govs. Gavin Newsom (Calif.) and Gretchen Whitmer (Mich.), as well as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

The Biden campaign has quickly shut down any notion that the president would leave the 2024 race.

This doesn’t mean that 75% won’t vote for him, but rather that 75% now think that the party would be better off with someone else.

Count me as part of this. I liked the job he did these past 4 years, but wish he kept his ego in check and just decided to walk away this time. If he’s the one on the ballot come November, I’ll vote for him, but it’s harder to defend that position now.

I’ll defend it. In a choice between a lunatic narcissist surrounded by sycophants and a potato surrounded by semi-competent advisors, I’ll have the mashed.

The choice doesn’t have to be between the narcissist and the potato.

In about 6 weeks, the Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago. With a democratic incumbent, that’s a boring little party that the entire nation ignores. But, if Biden drops out of the race in about 5 weeks, that convention turns into a media circus, and the entire base has a fresh new candidate winning the news cycles.

But that’s what we’re left with. I’ll vote for whoever is on the ticket, but there’s literally 0.01% chance someone else gets the nomination.

That’s not a defense, it’s an excuse. You’re picking the potato because the alternative is much worse. That’s not a resounding endorsement of potatoes, it’s an acknowledgement of reality.

Wouldn’t we be better off if he decides to have his next mashed potato serving on his own terms, and let Kamala take over? She seems to be the type of woman who forced her step-kids to eat their veggies, just what this country needs.

That’s what they said in 2008, too. (Well, the black part at least.) Give the country some more credit.

The stars aren’t aligned in the way they were in '08. And the black part is less of a hurdle than the woman part, honestly.

Switching leaders for term 2 is universally a disaster.

You want him to quit so the Dems lose? Damned hand-wringer Dems and the Russians they follow.

Biden isn’t going to win. The Republicans are mad as hell, and the Democrats are bored.

What we need is Trump spending the next 5 weeks telling us how old and senile Biden is, how bad an old, senile president will be. And then we tag in a 40-something candidate, making Trump the only geriatric left on the ballot.

A random Millennial could run on an “Ok, Boomer” platform and beat Trump.

That’s a great way to rephrase

    • 50% of Democrats
    • 100q of Republicans

in a way that doesn’t suggest this is a plan by the GoP to make Dems switch horses mid-race.

Tell me you didn’t watch the debate without telling me you didn’t watch the debate. The GOP wants the Democrats to stick with this particular horse.
