That would be a big mistake by Putin. Could be his last. And it will take more than 8 years to even think about it. Ukraine has deflated the Russian military. It will take more than 10 years for them to rearm

Same story is being reposted multiple times from different sources, this one is first so keeping it and removing the others.

They’re different stories about different statements from different countries. Estonia, Germany, and Poland all independently made statements, not as a single joint statement.

If this is a policy going forward, it should be listed as a rule.

I can almost guarantee that NATO will do some tricky “in order to defend NATO countries we must attack Russia first” business.

What else to do? NATO is the one who been encroaching to the Russian borders for decades, even though it promissed it would never expand.

The good part is most of the arsenal of NATO has been destroyed and used up on Ukraine. Perfect timing.

”Most of the arsenal of NATO”?

That’s just ridiculous. Not a single NATO country has compromised their own defense for this, which can be argued to be a bad or a good thing from either side, and most everyone’s been buying up new gear and investing heavily on new tech; they are, with a few minor exceptions, basically sending the scraps that’d go to landfill if it wasn’t convenient-ish to send them to Ukraine instead….

Firstly, do you disagree with the fact that NATO promised, in 1990, it would never expand an inch towards Russia?

Has it expanded since then or not?

Before I answer that, do you disagree with the fact that Russia signed a treaty in 1997 that explicitly allowed eastern block countries to join NATO by guaranteeing the territorial integrity (and autonomy) of the countries? Funny how you don’t hear Russian propagandists talk about that one lol.

As to the alleged ‘promise’ you refer to, can you point to where it was written and agreed to? Or are you just going off of oral statements to Gorbachev before the USSR fell by one us diplomat that wasn’t supported by his peers in the negotiation team and was walked back by the time the actual treaty was signed?

Our disagreement is going to come down to whether non-binding oral statements count as promises, or if you think subsequent signed agreements don’t overrule spoken statements.

Lol, ah the encroachment talking point. NATO doesn’t force countries to join. Maybe if Russia was a better neighbor, they wouldn’t have to worry about the Baltics requesting to join. Fucking chud. Also there was NEVER a promise. That talking point has been disproven over and over.

How do you know whether NATO forces the countries to join or not? From the TV and news? Or have you been in the meetings and heard all the details?
