Due to the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968, the Secret Service was made to protect all major runners for the presidency, as his assassination could have been stopped if he had more protection than the event’s guards.

Not only do all former presidents get a detail, all frontrunners with a credible shot at winning get secret service protection. I’m not sure what the exact requirements for that are, but Trump would almost certainly meet them.
I understand that the abbreviation is understood different in the US, but SS is understood as the Schutzstaffel founded as a paramilitary arm of Hitlers NSDAP later to become among the worst criminals in WWII and the Holocaust.
