this is really cool, honestly I wish this had become mainstream instead of GPS, it would have made the conversion to automated vehicles so much easier. Instead of having to worry about pathing the system could have worked using the address system linked directly to the road, the only thing it would need is cameras to be sure it won’t collide with anything, positioning could be via the antenna instead of the wildly inaccurate GPS, plus it would work in tunnels/heavy metal areas. That being said, price wise this would be a far more expensive startup price
This would’ve been massively underfunded, underdeveloped, and broken. They can’t even get potholes handled, no way they’re managing millions of radio transcievers haha.
I do agree, it would be a theft risk, I believe it would work best with the antenna actually being in the road instead of above it to remove risk factors, but you also lose range doing that, since something like that would likely be passive not active to avoid requiring a power source, although active would be better but again, $$
I mean, someone like Elon Musk (probably) isn’t stealing the copper from charging stations to fund his drug habits, the ultra-wealthy have far more efficient ways of stealing from society. People being desperate enough to steal wiring from infrastructure is definitely a problem, even if it’s a symptom of greater issues.

The problem is that high tech place on road are more easily stolen (by hobo) than thing high up in the sky.

oh yeah, poor people are always the problem
