I’m on my 4th campaign (2nd honour mode) and I still have yet to actually use the flask! I’m just starting Act 3 in this playthrough, but I’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions for the flask

I threw it at Gortash, as far away from my party as possible. The beholder attacked gortash and stunned him, making all attacks on him automatically critical hits. The fight was over after 2 turns.

Never thought about using it during combat. I’ve always just popped the top when my co-op mates are looking for something to do.

I used it against ::: spoiler Sarevok in the Bhaal ::: tribunal (Act 3), after killing the other mobs. It absorbed huge attacks that otherwise would have ended up in my party, and died.

Favorite use? Either Gortash or “giving it back” to the Zhent in Act 1 by pushing whats-her-name into the pit, followed by the flask and a torch.

I tend to avoid using it at all. It usually ends up damaging your own party more than the enemy.

    Spoiler

For most of the game the Iron Flask’s Spectator is a High Risk/High Reward item that isn’t really worth using since the risk is just a little too high. That said, by Act 3 the enemies that you face and their number transform it to Low Risk/High Reward since they have a really good chance of killing it in 2-3 rounds. Two fights in particular benefit from using the Spectator to tie down enemies: The battle with the Wizard in the Lower City Sewers and the Battle in the Courtyard leading to the Elder Brain. For the first in the Lower City Sewers the battlefield is split by a bunch of bridges and has a bunch of difficult terrain. Just toss the Flask onto one of the bridges and let it lock down 1/4-1/3 of the enemies in the fight. The Courtyard fight has a similar logic but here it’s just numbers. If you position it in the upper left courtyard it can lock down the whole left side for almost two rounds before they kill it.

Using the flask during the fight to protect Isobel at the Last Light Inn would probably be the most unhinged. Kinda like throwing a grenade into a room full of hostages.

Can you re-use the flask to catch something else afterward? I think I tried chucking the empty flask with no luck once, but maybe my target wasn’t actually extraplanar.
