Once I got my hometown to this point, I realized there are a ton of things that weren’t actually mapped… fire hydrants, street cabinets, electric poles, storm drains…

Do you know a comfortable way to share map-data for osm. Like an good app? Via web was kinda clunky with my phone

What mobile OS? I think StreetComplete is a popular editor for Android; I’ve never found an excellent app for iOS but I use Go Map and Every Door to achieve a fair result.

That’s great news! I’m not really one for gamification, but the interface on Android looks really nice, and removing the need to have interface knowledge of OSM KVPs for things like roof shape, track smoothness, etc is a big bonus.

I tried all the Android OSM editors I could find and Street Complete really is a pleasure to use, the others (which are perfectly good in their own right) seem so clunky and old-fashioned in comparison!

Yeah, that’s the case for Go Map on iOS too. It’s improved significantly over time, and it’s quite powerful, but the interface is still finicky and not always in line with the platform’s design language, and it’s not super helpful in guiding the user to the most common tags. Props to the developer though!

I think it’s just the idea that people who make contributions like doing it, and so they thought moving to a new town might bring new opportunities to make osm more widely used, but then you find out someone has already done the work. It’s bittersweet because you’re glad the work is done but bitter you didn’t get to do it yourself

my guess is either disappointment from not getting to contribute to your own town’s mapping, or some much more disturbing privacy implication

I was hoping you had a juicy conspiracy theory cooking up but it’s okay, I don’t think OP has one either

<fakenews> OSM IS MAPPING OUT THE TOWNS WHERE PRIVACY-CONSCIOUS PEOPLE LIVE SO THAT THE MEN IN BLACK CAN KIDNAP THEM MORE EASILY!!! </fakenews>
