    This reminds me of several stories here in the UK where the DWP asked amputees applying for benefits if their condition is likely to improve (and in at least one case literally “will your limb grow back?”).

    One thing needs to be absolutely clear when having these conversations (and when publishing articles about them, this is a criticism of the publication, not op) - insurance employees (and benefits assessors) are not medical professionals, and do not have the qualifications to make any decisions about whether something is medically necessary or not.

    They are making solely financial decisions, and couldn’t give a single fuck how those impact the medical condition or wellbeing of the people they see as nothing but dollar sign shaped NPCs.
