Have you had that "Upcoming price change for your Microsoft 365 subscription" email yet? They want to charge you an extra 50%ish for AI features, and they do *not* make it easy to find the way to turn it off. It took me minutes of searching - this is a particularly evil dark pattern.
"Switch plan" just lets you pick between annual and monthly billing. You want "Turn off recurring billing" and then "Current subscription without AI".
You're welcome. Please boost for others.
Where I live, Microsoft wants 69€/year for a single plan and 99€/year for a family plan. When you activate auto renewal, you get a single month for free. once.
When I go to retailers, I can get 15 months family plan (12 plus 3 months free) for around 50€ as a code card. Sometimes even with another subscription code as a goodie on top (e.g. 1 year for an anti virus, or a VPN, or…). Those Microsoft codes do stack, so you can enter new codes way before the active subscription runs out (IIRC someone said up to 5 years in advance). I don’t know why anyone would use auto renewal at the official Microsoft rate, but this might depend on where you live.
And on top of that, you apparently additionally get fucked by Microsoft when you have activated your auto renewal now. That’s scummy AF
