This gets downvoted but it hits the truth, though maybe in macaber way.

Why do we blame cats for killing wildlife while its ok for humans to pave huge pieces of land with concrete and brick or kill biodiversity with pesticides and farm equipment? Maybe humans are the problems, not cats? Or is everyone here living off the grid, does not own a car and produces their own food? Ah and if you have kids you have no argument at all.

  • Never found remmina to be laggy but never tried with 3 monitors. Still sounds better than what I had to do when i had to work from home a few years ago. I had to run a windows vm, to log in to citrix at work (didn’t work directly in Linux for me then) to then remote desktop into servers and work in emacs there. It was virtualization hell. It worked but oh boy was everything laggy… Should have gone one deeper and ran my linux on a hypervisor for a true beauty of a setup.

Eh that’s regional still, like in dutch we’ve changed the meaning of old imperial words to be equal to metric quantities, though probably used more common by older people. So 1 ons (ounce) = 100g and a pond (pound) is half a kg. But this is mostly used at a butcher. For other stuff we mostly just use the metric nomenclature.

I really don’t like this kind of stuff… I became part of a company(through acquisition) that would do the evaluation through a buddy/mentor. So you had to write your 3 goals of the next year, etc… and your buddy would present them in an open meeting (all mentors were there). The first ‘evaluation’ i only wrote as my goal, to look for another job. My poor buddy didn’t enjoy that, neither did my boss apparently. Yet still to this day i never spoke with that supposed to be boss…

How they would ever think evaluations hold any value when they are disconnected and open to everyone that’s invited to the meeting is beyond me. I guess it was just basically so your buddy had to tell you you didn’t get a raise and you couldn’t even ask why not, because he wouldn’t know.

The ease of reinstalling is not the main selling point. That’s just one of the (imho many) benefits of having a declarative reproducible configuration.

Many people balk at the nix language, which i think isn’t that hard to learn, But having to learn just one language/syntax instead of knowing each different application’s config syntax is a huge plus for me. Plus you basically get a preprocessor for all configs, which certainly is nice.

Now if you’re not a software developer i can see why that would still be a roadblock. But honestly for a pretty straight forward setup, most of it you can just find on the wiki or other places.
