yep :) exactly, It was one of my initial sources of inspiration.

yep :) exactly, It was one of my initial sources of inspiration.
thank you very much !
thanks ! my initial inspiration comes mainly from the pioneer’s plates and the golden record of voyager but there is a bit of arecibo inside indeed :)
here: https://juliencatanese.bigcartel.com i just have one print left of this one available but i wait paper for new repress soon. (Dm for reservation if it’s already sold out)
I really like this! The colors of the ink, paper, frame, and even the wall look great together!
thank a lot :) the frame and the wall come from a mock up I haven’t actually framed it yet :)
haha, meditative is the term yes, it’s very long, more than thirty hours of engraving :) thank you! all my prints are printed by hand. using a sterile sterile and a tablespoon :)
it is a mixture of abstract elements with occult/sci-fi connotations and scientific diagrams or more figurative or symbolic elements. there are elements relating to cosmology, astronomy, topography/geology. the element carbon, its simplified atomic model. a molecule of “chnops” the building blocks of life, a representation of bacterial life and various abstract elements. everything arranged in such a way as to have a homogeneous and graphically coherent egnimatic whole.
thanks ! I do the research using drawings in a notebook, but they are more sketches of elements, of symbols. I create the composition in vector on Adobe Illustrator then using a transfert medium from liquitex , I transfer my printed composition onto my linoleum plate. I then engrave my plate manually. approximately 90 percent of the plaque is hollowed out.
thank you ! yep, these are the metallic inks from canfield color. they are beautiful ! :)
thanks :)
thanks a lot :)
here’s what I see when I’m on my profile but I think you’re not the only one who doesn’t see the links appear
here it is just in case : Website
Gorgeous! That was an immediate buy. Any tips on where to get a nice frame?
thank you very much ! :) personally I use glass frames with a thin border (no more than 1 cm) black or gold. A varnished wood that tends towards gold as in the photo could also be very suitable…being in France, I leave it to someone else to worry about where to find it :)
Yep, my website link is on my profile
That is really impressive and a lot more hours than I’d thought
thank you, I work slowly and I like my plates to be impeccable. which adds a certain number of hours not necessarily necessary to the final result. but for me it is important.
Even if you don’t go down the programming angle, your style seems ripe to incorporate things like PCB traced/layout. In the olden days, layouts were done by hand and some had a bit of artistic flare and were generally single layer with jumpers to hop over other traces as necessary. Something from the 80s through the early aughts will have a lot more straight lines, but there’s still a lot of interesting geometry. Multi-layer PCBs were becoming more prevalent, but most limited to two. Modern designs are very dense and often span way more than 2 layers, but if you were to find the right thing (PCB antennas maybe?) it could make for something interesting.
thank you, yes this is the aspect of computing that you were talking about. It’s really interesting visually. and indeed it would very much appreciate an engraving around electronics and computing. I just saw images of hand-drawn maps in the 70s, the absence of straight lines gives an almost organic effect. it contrasts with recent printed circuits. I’ll keep that in mind for the future !
Im a computer scientist. I work on compilers. There are lots of graphical representations in compilation that would look so cool in your art style.
This might interest me, do you have a link to a site or document where I can see what it looks like?
You’ll see, it’s like a poster a little thicker and with more work to create :D
thanks ;)
