  • You got off easy. I drowned the supplies in the reserve since I just couldn’t kill Casey while he’s talking to me on a radio, even though the supplies would probably end up saving more lives ultimately. Then I killed him to protect May because I didn’t realise it was him, assuming I’d be able to talk her down, then I shot her to prevent her from ringing the bell.

After that I shot myself in the head since that felt like the proper ending. (Of course, I reloaded after that and let it play out the same way to get to the actual ending).

The point of building a rapport with the characters is exactly to make the ending such a gut punch. This is a shitty and cruel world, and you can’t expect things to work out great even if you go in with the best intentions. That said, supposedly you can save both May and Casey by standing between them and blocking his aim. I’m actually on my second playthrough now and want to try doing that this timr. She will ring the bell, but screw the bastards outside. The way I see it, all that shooting would have attracted a horde anyway.

The ending will always be bleak though, because it is a bleak game in a bleak setting. It is what you signed up for, whether you know it or not.
