  • It’s fun, especially if you stay reasonably warm and dry.

Definitely take warm clothes, like sweat pants, and a warm jacket. Also I’d suggest gloves + warm hat for at night. Mountains can be significantly colder, depending on elevation. Couple pairs of warm socks ftw.

Second pair of shoes is good, goes double if it’s wet.

Talk to your friend about what else you need. Good junk food is essential, along with some protein bars to add to your meal food. Sometimes you need calories after a hike or activity, and cooking takes too long. Or you are cold, or whatever.

Deck of cards or small board game. A book to read.

Alcohol - depending on the trip, if you are backpacking and inexperienced, no alcohol. If you are car camping somewhere more civilized, not unsafe to have a beer or something in the evening. You want to avoid dumb accidents in places you can’t easily drive out of to a hospital. Carrying someone out is bad because everyone else invariably gets knee/ankle/other issues.

If you are backpacking/hiking far some aspirin or your preferred otc. You may be sore, will help you sleep. Band aids for blisters. And a small first aid kit is always good.
