You can be critical in a productive way, and you aren’t. It’s post after post of “Joe Biden Bad,” without any discussion of how to push for meaningful change that might make for a viable third party or a more progressive Democrat party. There’s a reason a ton of people have you blocked. When all you do is criticize, it’s only barely better than the obvious shills trying to get the left to vote for spoiler candidates or stay home, except at least they’re probably getting paid.

  • I saw a longer video (maybe not the full one) that showed him turning around and engaging with them a couple of times, and someone threw what looked like juice at him - didn’t seem to be the bottle, just the liquid, and then he pushed past several people to punch that specific woman. I don’t think he can claim self-defense even if they had pushed him down before, because he walked pretty far to get to her without anyone attacking him or even stopping him.

You know what? Don’t vote. You’ve done basically nothing but agitate for people to hand the election to Trump, and it’s obvious you’re either too privileged to be hurt by that or too stupid to realize that you will be. I hope that if he wins, you can look at all the people who lose their rights at best and die at worst, and feel really good about taking a stand or whatever in arguably the worst possible election to do that in in decades. I would love for there to be a genuinely progressive candidate with a snowball’s chance in hell of winning, but there isn’t. A progressive third party candidate (and Jill Stein is not it) is not going to win. That’s the reality we live in, and anyone pretending it’s not is either a liar, a child, or a moron. I have too much to lose by throwing my vote in the trash, but you do you.

  • So the short answer is that it’s complicated. Long answer is (with the caveat that I’m not an attorney and we have one that guides our licensing board) that those are crimes of moral turpitude, which are considered when evaluating a new application or renewal. Per state law, the existence of a conviction isn’t enough on its own to deny the license - the board has to consider things like length of time since the crime and the applicant’s conduct since then. I genuinely have no idea what would happen if someone was in jail. I mean, I’m sure their license would be denied, I’m just not sure if they’d even be allowed to renew or maintain ownership in the first place. It’s never come up. More than likely, they’d sell it or transfer ownership before it ever came to me.

I don’t know NJ liquor laws, but if they’re similar, I can see them saying sorry, the conviction was too recent and you’ve shown zero remorse, no license for you. That said, I have no idea if Trump, individually is considered an owner, or if the license is under a subsidiary company where everyone knows it’s ultimately his, but he’s not involved in any of the day to day, so the establishment can remain licensed. Frankly, it’s not going to hurt him as much as the people who will lose their jobs if the license goes, but I’ll be interested to see what happens.

  • This is why it’s so frustrating to see people saying they won’t vote because Biden is old (yes) and supports Israel (mostly true, albeit more complicated than that). Neat, but if Trump gets reelected, I’d be willing to bet that most of the conservative justices suddenly retire and we end up with a bunch of 35 year olds with lifetime appointments who can spend decades fucking stuff up. Hooray!
