My furnace went out again, which sucked. I pay the utility company every month for a service that makes it their problem though, and they fixed it again. They’ve replaced enough parts in it at this point that I’m wondering how long until I’ve ship-of-theseus’ed my way to a new furnace.
It’s cold, furnace ain’t working right, MAGA probably still wants me dead (Autistic Latino) and I’m broke until payday
But hey it’s the weekend and I can spend it with family and forget the troubles for a bit
Except the cold, fuck the cold
I’ve had a very, very American week.
It’s been shockingly cold (15-ish, but in Texas so that’s a life-threatening emergency), but all the money I’ve put into repairs and replacements of house stuff has kept me from completely freezing, just a little frostbitten.
…At least, until tomorrow, when everything should thaw and I find out how many plumbing repairs are going to be required due to burst pipes/broken faucets/etc.
And my LGS got all of my new guns in as a single shipment which they didn’t expect, so that happened a few weeks earlier than expected. Now to spend an infinite amount of money on ammo, accessories, and sundries.
I’ve also got all the chicken coop and planter beds lumber and assorted other hardware sitting in the back yard waiting for a time wherein I won’t freeze to death to build them. Should be big enough for 4 hens, which means I fully expect to be a millionaire by July.
I need to get some potato and carrot and onion seeds (yes I know, potato seeds aren’t really seeds) for the raised beds. I’ve decided I’m going to scale way back and just do some basic root vegetables instead of my more ambition leafy vegetables and fruits and herbs plan, because I just plain don’t think I have room to grow enough of that to matter.
And I have my MSF course scheduled in two weeks, so assuming I don’t completely flop, I’ll be legally allowed to smear my entrails across the highway via an oopsie on a motorcycle.
My son’s last day of Chemotherapy was yesterday. Cheers to amazing nurses and physicians. Breathing a little easier today.
I don’t even know who or why or where or when, but fuck yesssss I’m chuffed for you!!!
Thank you. It’s been a huge challenge.
Oh, man, that’s huge! I’m sorry you’re dealing with it, but finishing chemo is such a great thing when it’s necessary in the first place.
Yes it’s been a rollercoaster for sure. I’m thankful for amazing doctors and nurses.
Congrats! That’s got to feel good
It very much does!
Our President posted a picture of himself in a crown, with the caption “long live the king” from an official government account and we all just went along like it wasn’t a red flag the size of Chy-na. So, pretty fucking terrified and confused, if I’m honest.
Honestly seems like exactly the kind of thing our second amendment was created for. Only he’s not a monarch, he was elected, and still has a huge faction of moronic supporters somehow.

This is the key. Behind Musk is Trump, behind him is We The People (e.g. if Trump disappeared then JD Vance would simply step in, or Donald Trump Jr, Desantis, Ramaswamy, Rubio, etc.), behind them is social media, and thereby Putin, and after him is climate change that we cannot afford to ignore while trying to get our house in order.
Perhaps this is why the Fediverse is so crucial to help stay independent of knowing only what “they” want us to know. Although so far the tools are only developing extremely slowly, and the vast majority of people seem to prefer e.g. the pretty Bluesky over the likes of Mastodon, Lemmy, Friendica, etc. And from the perspective of trying to find info on topics not related to which Linux distro to pick or casual chatting, I can see why: the content creators choose elsewhere more often than here.
But we do what we can to try to move forward as best we can.
Stressful.
Every American I work with is stressed. Non-Americans are fine.
Confusing. I work for the government and we keep getting weird notices and contradictory updates that threaten everyones job.
Cold. It has been cold lol.
We’ve been dealing with the weather, and chicken drama of one kind or another all week long.
The weather has been cold enough that the birds can’t be guaranteed to be safe and healthy outside, which means that the pet hen isn’t the only one to come in at night. The rooster does too.
But, now we’ve got this volunteer hen, and if the rooster can’t stay outside all night, neither can she because a single chicken can’t produce enough heat to keep safe in a coop, and the rooster refuses to sleep in the coop anyway.
So, we have to herd this half feral hen onto the porch and into a spare crate we borrowed. Which was an extra pain last night because another rooster paid us a visit and had to be caught and shoved in a pet carrier so it could neither get killed by our rooster, or harass the hens while we took care of everything for the night.
Chicken drama is, however, the best kind of drama to be having, if you’re having any at all
That sounds like it would make a great little soap opera
These are, the days of our birds. cue theme music
