    It was really all about building super complicated pages with <table><tr><td><img src="x"></td><td colspan=2><img src="y"></td></tr></table> stuff before CSS

    I spent so long working with protocols over RS232 that hex and binary operators became like a second language.

    I remember a grad student was doing some frontend work on it around 2015 and it blew his mind that we’d store 8 bools in a byte and call it a “status flag”.
