But to engage with poetry
Is to be open to anythingTo be honest I think both of you are right. It’s definitely a tool that can be used very deliberately and to great effect, but it’s also over-employed by poor writers in order to make their creation more “poem-like”. I have seen plenty of examples of both kinds.
