This was literally the first thing I said about the “unbreakable windows” for the cyber truck. That is NOT a good thing in an emergency. This is just one example.

Was it a cybertruck? That’d be even funnier. Pretty sure that breaks safety regulations in a lot of countries, just like a lot of other aspects of that pile of shit of a car.

The glass on the x is breakable. The issue if your car goes into water, most people panic and you have only a few minutes to get out. We had training in the army for this and I died almost every time. Doesn’t help that I’m just an ok swimmer

You literally have to disassemble part of the door card to access them on some models. It’s ridiculously unsafe.

To be fair even purely mechanical ones would be extremely difficult to open once water is even part way up the doors. The pressure difference inside & outside the car only grows higher as the water level gets higher. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have a tool Like this nearby that can both break the glass and cut your seatbelt.

Check out the Mythbusters and other sources if you think you can open a car door from an even a partially submerged car…

They keep people in the car better during a rollover event. No idea if the gains there are worth the increases risk of not being able to quickly escape.

Lots of car manufacturers recently are switching to laminate windows.

Even more effective is a little known technology called a seat belt. Windshields have been laminate for a while. Side windows are supposed to be tempered so that shatter into tiny pieces.

          seat belt

Unfortunately a large part of the world treats this from optional to straight up hostile towards the idea of using it.

So instead of fixing the issue of people not wearing seat belts, car manufacturers should start acommodating them?
