You have no idea how many Quebecois friends I have who glorify Americanism and American culture.
They can hardly speak English, speak English with a very thick French accent, know that Americans make fun of them for speaking the English language in a French accent yet they still spend a month or two in Florida because they love the ‘freedom of the US’ and want to take advantage of all the American things down there. They have this weird combination of French redneck and European identity with hints of some kind of strange nationalism. I’ve seen logging trucks drive around with Confederate flags proudly displayed on the grill. And in a strange way, they still want to hold on to their French heritage. It’s weird.
They glorify a culture that would destroy theirs if the US ever took over Canada … it’s a weird world we live in.
