As an aside, I’ve seen this happen elsewhere as well. Classic play for wage theft. When I was working as a bartender in London to make ends meet, I had a coworker from Mexico on an expired visa. Great guy and the most hardworking. Well won’t you guess it, guy got picked up by immigration authority on payday.
And why didn’t anyone report that company for employing illegal immigrants?
Would probably be far more effective. Punish the employer for not taking reasonable checks. Are they paying tax correctly?
Ain’t gonna work in Maggie’s farm no more …
This is specifically why historically reporting your exploitation has been a path to citizenship for illegal/legal immigrants in the united states. It wasn’t a well known endeavor though , and I doubt it’s functioning has continued
You gotta keep that reserve army of labor in line
If we’re gonna crack down on illegal immigrant labor, we should start with the people who knowingly employ them. Who’s crime is greater, the person who came to this country to seek a better life by the sweat of their brow, or the employer who hired them because they knew they could pay them less and otherwise extort and coerce their labor? Ask me the former is barley, if at all, a crime. Whereas the latter is deserving of a criminal investigation and sentence.
Fucking embarrassing…
This is the same in UK. There are people who believe that illegal immigration is the reason rents are high and jobs are hard to get and also they’re all on benefits. It’s illegal to rent to or employ an illegal immigrant and I’m not sure how they are supposed to apply for benefits as an illegal immigrant but the narrative persists. Legal immigrants here have zero access to any benefits at all.
But, obviously it is all their fault and not those illegally employing and housing them.
Legal immigrants can claim benefits depending on their immigration status and whether they’ve been granted recourse to public funds; but the majority work their backsides off.
It’s just an excuse to be openly racist.
I’m constantly surprised as I wander thro my middle England life with the people who have had a privileged existence yet still hold ignorant views on immigration.
How about we acknowledge why this historically angry little island of ours has so much immigration and that each decade’s wave of influx has positively contributed to our society
The point of the system is what it does. None of this is happening by chance or due to one or two bad actors
This is chilling and disgusting
Manager better be locking his door, replacing windows with walls, and getting armed security that goes with the everywhere.
If my manager pulled this shit, the manager would no longer have a home or vehicle by the following morning. Whether they get caught inside the house doesn’t matter.
Anyone who destroys someone’s life over
obvious insecurities“an argument” deserves to have their own life destroyed. They wouldn’t be manager in the first place…. Managers are cops for the bourgeoisie.
Eh,my current manager was under me prior to a change in teams. I didn’t go for that position because I hate management. He’s still a great guy who largely lets me work however I need to, and shields me from upper management. I like having good managers who can be a buffer between me (tech) and upper management who don’t exactly understand what I do.
Did they gain more money than you, or were the fruits of your labor divided equally to your yields?
If not the latter, you were exploited to work for the owners of the business. There’s senior syndicalism, and there’s bourgeoisie exploiters.
I’ll await until you finish reading David Graeber’s Bullshit Jobs: A Theory 2018. Debt: The First 5,000 Years is just as good.
“Not all
menmanagers”But yeah, it’s interesting when a friend gets promoted to management. We like when they keep their working class roots top of mind, and it’s great when one does. Many of us try it once or twice. But the first time that layoff convo comes down from on high, you find the fuck out they care more about their own standing in the system than putting workers first. Cops and managers - I ain’t trying to be either.
Definitely fair, and no argument against. Though, in both instances that I got laid off, it was on the 5th round of layoffs, and my bosses (who I got along with both times) got laid off before me in the 4th round. In addition, at one of the companies I was friends with the person who cut access and all, and they kept it secret from even her until the day after taking her phone and keeping them in a locked room. Both times someone either way up the chain or from HR delivered the news, so not sure the bosses would have even came into the convo, had they not already been canned anyway
Start calling ICE on Trump supporters.
Apparently the wealthy couldn’t keep us under control by threatening homelessness, starvation and loss of healthcare - now they have to threaten to fucking deport us if we don’t bend the knee to their miniature dictatorships.
Well, of course they do. They’re cringe-ass losers!
I wish these posts would dox the company/manager. Bullying them into quitting is the least of what they deserve.
Can’t do that without outing the entire staff to ICE, unfortunately.
They already knew, they were doing their job as described in the post.
Yeah that’s very fair.
So the manager/owner also got arrested or fined for employing illegal immigrants right?
More likely to get a payout for reporting
Ha! Ha ha! As an extra aside, I got fired from that job for “talking back” to that boss.
Some people take respect to mean treating other people as equals. Other people treat respect as an excuse to exploit people, like they should be treated as superiors.
I believe the quote went something like, “If you don’t treat me respect, then you don’t deserve respect,” meaning, “If you don’t treat me as an authority, I won’t treat you as human.”
As always, the more a person wants power, the less that person deserves it.
It happens, businesses in Denver got fined 8 million last year.
There might be a difference between then and now.
If that manager gets murdered behind the warehouse, that’s just karma.
A big part of what’s keeping my wages as a nurse depressed is health systems bringing in international nurses that are too afraid to demand better wages. They’re also often too afraid to pipe up about the sketchy shit too; I’ve gotten pushed out of jobs for being too insistent on doing things the safer or more legal way. And it’s never anything you could really prove in the go public way its more like I suspect the reason they’re telling me it takes longer to do this task when I’m here than when I’m not is that they skip the part where they explain all the patients rights to them or they skip the followup assessment to check for adverse reactions or whatever. It’s never “why are you bothering to do this critical step” it’s “why aren’t you as fast as this person?” or “why do you use so many of these supplies?” They’d never tell you to skip those parts in writing but they’ll sure as hell constantly keep asking why you’re so slow and wasteful compared to the people that are more scared of them.
And I’m not even blaming the international nurses, tbh they’re just as much victims in this as I and the patients am possibly even more in some ways. If you look into some of the stories of the nursing home contracts a bunch of those situations are actually just straight up human trafficking including being lied to about the job description, the pay, being lied to about their rights or what the actual regulations are on things and that they’ll get in trouble if they speak up even if it’s for the patients. Being told they’re not allowed to leave the building for multiple shifts worth of time or they’ll lose the job that brought them here. And then when you look at how many nurses already regardless of immigration status are already getting hit at work and think about what it must be like to be told you have to just deal with it or they’ll call ICE to come get you… it’s just fucking awful shit all around.
If nurse pay actually had to be adjusted to something more nurses born here were willing to do that work for the Healthcare industry as we know it would collapse (but tbh there’s a lot of other horribly inhumane things about it anyway so 🔥).
I appreciate your insight here. It has some relevance to where I am in the UK, where international workers are holding up the NHS. (This is one of many reasons why Brexit was a disaster)
If you run into this again, maybe you can use pursuit of efficiency to get proof?
“If we really want to find out why, we can use a Value-stream mapping approach to analyze the process. We might even identify additional specific opportunities where we’re able to speed up!”
By documenting all steps in a process and timing each one you’d be able to identify where the difference is, and whether a critical step is being skipped. It really doesn’t have to take much time or effort. If management can’t be bothered to make that happen, then they must not really care about efficiency.
The more I’ve lived to see the way things go, the more I’ve come around to the idea that maybe the commies were on to something. Maybe struggle sessions were the least some people deserve.
As much as Capitalism has problems, Communism just has different ones.
Both caused by selfish people.
When people ask about reeducation camps in like yeah that’s the most humane path forward
Well, you are in an anarchist comm ;)
It seems many newcommers are not aware of this blatant fact. It outstands me when they think being bourgeoisie friendly is tolerated in this network.
So everyone quit? Right? Document and undocumented?
Hard to strike/quit in protest when you live paycheck to paycheck and unions have been demolished over the span of the past 60-ish years.
Hard to turn up to work when you might be sent away by doing so. I wouldn’t leave until my next job was lined up or there was a union. It doesn’t need to be a self damaging act to be a retaliatory act.
You also might be sent away by not showing up for work if the boss feels like sending ICE to your home.
Can we just call this what it is? Terrorism.
Or indentured servitude. Also known as slavery.
Ha! Ha Ha!
