I’m good at math, just bad at arithmetic. So I use a calculator. Cooking as a pro takes a shitload of math and some of it csn be weird as hell. Converting unit measurements from imperial to metric, knowing what weight of what thing equals what amount by volume a bunch of weird shit for food costing. I can easily create the formulae to get the intel but I need a machine to do the calculations. I had a great teacher for my last year of math and my grades went from 60s to 90s cause he explained how some of the shit we had to learn was used practically, often it was how scientists figured at thing out but that’s good enough for me, just tell me what the math does and I’m interested. Plus it was shit like plotting sine functions that you needed a calculator anyway

saaame. i was held back a math level because i made “simple mistakes” but understood what I was doing and wrote huge complex games with Vbasic as a teen.

now my brain is basically limited to finance mathematics though ugh

I’ve kept as beat as interested in science stuff and got better at some math in that regard. I work with a guy with a geology degree and we have access to a 650 degree pizza oven and we totally do science in there on slow days. Usually just seeing how fast something burns. We did get dome measuring tape put one day and tried to measure the fireball from throwing a handful of flour in but it melted the tape. One time I dumped a bucket of ice in there and then went outside to see the billow of steam out of the exhaust

This is science, true and primal

I am a firm believer in experimenting an collecting data for no specific hypothesis. I live entirely in the Fuck Around and Find Out neighborhood of Sciencetown

It’s a tough gig so you have fun while you can. We also fixed a dinged up pizza paddle like old timey blacksmiths by heating the end up in the oven, basing it with a hammer and then shaving it down with the whetstone. My idea to squirt all the cleaning chemicals into the oven at once has so far been thwarted but one day…
