One of the primary dangers of this stuff is that because it’s labeled as a food additive, it doesn’t have oxygen mixed in it like the medically approved mixture you’d receive at a dentist. So while people are hitting this, they’re depriving their brains of oxygen, which is where a lot of the long-term damage comes from. If they were able to sell it with oxygen mixed in, it wouldn’t be as bad. Once again criminalization makes drugs far more dangerous than they need to be.

It is illegal to inhale NO2, or market it for inhalation, outside of medical applications where it is administered directly by a doctor, dentist, or anesthesiologist. These medical grade canisters contain a mixture of NO2 and O2 and are safe to breath for a while, but they are regulated and can usually only be obtained when one “falls off the truck.” The vendors will not sell these to you unless you are associated with a medical practice. NO2 sold for automotive purposes is ‘denatured,’ deliberately contaminated to make it toxic. Most other gasses which are typically abused (canned air dusters, for instance) are produced with a bittering agent, to prevent abuse. This is not possible with food-grade NO2, which is used as a replacement for oxygen in whipped cream because oxygen would cause the cream to spoil rapidly. It only works for its intended purpose if it has no oxygen in it, so if you breath it continuously you can suffer hypoxia, loss of consciousness, and other problems.

NO2 is relatively benign though, compared to other much more harmful gases which are typically abused, aside from the hypoxia and other mentioned symptoms.

            Thanks I’ll I see.

According to summaries on the first page of search results, NO2 also makes bulkier whipped cream than O2 can. So my idea of starting a trend of eating whipped cream right away before it spoils won’t work.

It seems to me in the present situation, it isn’t exactly criminalization, but half assed regulation that’s the problem.

Either regulate and enforce regulations on NO2, or do not.

Though I guess I am not considering the whole universe of harm that has been prevented by regulating in the current manner so far. Like maybe there’d be more self taught cheapo dentists working out of kitchens.

What?? I recently listened to their whole episode on nitrous and he wasn’t just being critical of them, he was going off about how even as a former hard drug user he can’t understand the appeal. I suspect you caught him doing the multiple levels of irony thing, like how he says he’s become a catholic when they talk about Opus Dei, or a liberal when they went to the DNC.

That’s normally just what I assume because that dude is so inscrutable to me when he’s doing that, lol

I had to check which episode, basically just the beginning of episode 458. It was the rules lawyering about whether whippets count as a drug with the worst Mount Everest/oxygen tank example. Like the reason that makes your voice low is because it’s more dense than air, whether it counts as a drug or not I don’t care, but it causes brain damage and my nephew’s mom died from them, so the misinformation and flippancy about them drives me nuts.

While you’re not wrong, nitrous enhances MDMA like nothing else! I don’t like it when I’m sober, but on MDMA it’s incredible.

It also cures hiccups. The only time I’ll do nitrous when I’m not rolling is when I can’t use breath exercises to cure hiccups.

So much misinformation about nitrous oxide use.

    Here’s the lowdown:

    • You can’t tell when you’re running out of oxygen, only when co2 builds up. If you are inhaling anything that isn’t oxygen (e.g. nos, or even helium) you can very easily pass out and that can be dangerous.
    • Low o2 levels can cause all sorts of problems, from brain damage to heart attacks. If you are using gas for any reason do so in a well ventilated space.
    • if inhaling nos for recreational reasons at least mix it with air and avoid continual breathing. Monitor blood oxygenation with a cheap pulseox from a pharmacy. Better yet, buy oxygen and inhale a 20% o2 mix.
    • Using nos depletes enzymes necessary for b12 use in the body. You cannot get around this by supplementing b12. This is the one drug you want to binge and leave large recovery periods in between. Enjoy a silly weekend then don’t touch it for months. If you even slightly suspect you couldn’t keep to this then don’t touch it. Take it from someone with unrelated nerve injury, howevermuch pain you’ve experienced neuropathy is worse.
    • Industrial or cooking supplies may not be safe for inhalation due to lubricants or impurities used. A weekend will be fine, but this is yet another reason to avoid chronic use.
    • Never use anything that affects coordination while standing up. A fall from standing can just kill or permanently maim you. Don’t be stupid.
    • never fucking inhale anything directly from a pressurised container. If it could pop a balloon it could pop your lungs. That is an injury you do not want.

Drugs can be used with acceptable levels of risk for most people, but only with community and education. Don’t be stupid, don’t take unnecessary risks, and know yourself. If someone went skydiving without practice and guidance, and took shortcuts on safety equipment would you expect that to go well? Don’t be stupid, don’t diminish risks, but also don’t inflate them.

There’s a local corner store here that had a big banner advertising that they sold this stuff. Had to look up what it was.

Then last time I drove by they changed it from “We sell Galaxy Gas!” to “We sell 7-Hydroxymitragynine!”

I looked that up and apparently it’s some super concentrated kratom extract and a bunch of the google results were warning that it was basically just morphine. Which sounds pretty fucked up.

But also it’s extremely easy to get fentanyl here, so maybe it’s harm reduction in a sense? But selling it so openly, where anyone who drives along this major road will know you are dealing…

Just like, I remember when I was younger buying weird drugs from corner stores, they at least had to wink wink nudge nudge pretend that they weren’t just drug dealers.

My gas station sells vapes, cigs, kratom, you name it without id. Granted I don’t get carded because they know me from how often I visit it (plus I have an old man beard) but I can’t see them really carding kids either, or an adult who’s buying it for a kid. Anyway, capitalism and people self-medicating to relieve the terror brought on by this horrible way of life.

My dream would be drugs sold in an extremely boring and ugly place with no advertising. Like beige walls, unpleasant lighting. Plain packaging, nurse to educate on safer usage, harm reduction material and rehab advertisement. Volunteers on hand to talk about addiction and recovery experiences if you’re interested.

You can get them with good safety information and without judgement but it’s made as unappealing as possible. No colourful cans of beer with smiling people on them, no weed called like galaxybrain ultralove 7000, just plain “heroine, injectable preparation, 1 mg/ml” “cannabis, 100g, thc:cbd 2:1, dry herb preparation” etc.

We can’t remove drug use but we can make it safer without encouraging use.

I will sing kratom’s praises all day everyday, but I have nothing good to say about 7-OH. Kratom is safe, cheap and relatively non-addictive. 7-OH is an expensive, short lived, and insanely addictive high that has a super steep tolerance increase. 7-OH is going to be the death of kratom, mark my words.

They really do, i see them all over town with their tanks and balloons. I’m not talking these whipped cream dispenser cartridges, either, they usually have a bunch of foot long tanks with shoulder slings with them and just leave them lying around when they’re done.

        My thoughts:

        1. Not every important thing the rebellion does or needs is going to be a Johnny Space Rambo doing Johnny Space Rambo stuff. If nobody is out siphoning gas from imperial fuel tanks to keep the X-wings topped off, Johnny Space Rambo doesn’t get anywhere near Stormtroopers.

        2. Those missions where the goal is to not get into a firefight? Turns out those missions are every bit as dangerous as being in a spaceship dog fight.

You a mechanic? I’mma need you to fix this tank.

You a thief? I’mma need to steal this tank.

You really good a driving things? I’mm need you to drive this tank.

That’s how the rebellion gets a tank, keeps it running, and uses it effectively.

True, but after ripping off his mask and getting exposed I was thinking they’re be some repercussions or addiction for wilmon.

It just seemed like they were building up something with wilmon and saw, then dropped it completely.

Was even expecting the ryhdo stuff to get mentioned after his checkup once wilmon finally made it it yavin

hmmm… I can see that as a possibility but I’m going to counter with this.

When I was young and much dumber than I am now, I enlisted in the military. One of the tasks of my job was to mess with exploding things like landmines and dynamite and other stuff of that nature. Turns out, lots of people doing other jobs that were known for being dangerous in different ways were really, REALLY, uncomfortable messing around with those exploding things. And it always took me by surprise. Watching infantry nervously pick up crates of demolitions and cautiously loading it onto a truck, cautiously walking around the crates, when not actively loading anything standing very far away… all this caution slowing us down.

So there’s the dangerous thing, rydonium. Everybody knows its dangerous and they get really nervous around it. The nervousness makes handling the stuff more dangerous because you’re more likely to get so caught up in worrying about “being safe” you second guess yourself at a critical moment. Or your caution about the rydonium has you moving so slowly that other threats catch up to you.

For me, Saw’s speech is about embracing the thing as it is and not worrying about the worst possible outcome. Wilmon pulling his mask off isn’t about him becoming addicted to gas fumes or becoming an adrenaline junkie, its about embracing the situation as it is. The job was to break into a fuel depot and steal some space gas. You fuck up and the rhydo detonates and you die, you fuck up and the rhydo eats you from the inside, you fuck up and Imperial troops capture/kill you, you fuck up and the guerilla fighters don’t get the fuel to keep fighting.

Thing is, worrying about all that doesn’t matter, Wilmon just needed to focus on getting the siphoning gas out of the Imperial gas can.

Would make sense. Idk if it was the writing or me just constantly seeing death flags in each episode.

Or maybe rumors of them wanting to have it be more seasons than 2 is why season 2 felt so rushed.

I can think of some great ideas for subterfuge & propaganda by the deed if you had a job at wherever these are made, but I’m gonna keep that to myself.
