        To be fair, they very much did stop someone whose intent seemed to be mass violence. The man who died caught a stray, which is still a tragedy but it could have gone so much worse

          That (no doubt unintentionally) casts it as a simple “trolley problem” dichotomy. But it’s not a dichotomy. “Commit fewer homicides than the bad guy might have” is not a win condition, it’s barely more than a push.

          Edit: shooter still succeeded in their goal. Suicidal terrorists don’t see this and think, “I need a better plan,” they think, “I can’t be stopped.” Shooter doesn’t care who pulled the trigger, he still bagged a kill!!!
