Sports have been a critical part of human culture for longer than the language you use to dump on them. You do not have to like them, but belittling them just speaks to a kind of petty bias.

Athletics have been part of human culture. SPORTS, especially over-paid pro-sports, is a very new thing. No one was paying gladiators millions of dollars (equivalent) in the roman empire. They might earn their freedom, and I think in a tiny tiny amount of exceptional cases, citizenship. Sports is not all encompassing athletics. Sports is the orchestration of athletics to sell shit. It’s the cancer that takes a good thing and makes it repugnant.
