Post link for anyone who cares
Looking at these liberals just confidently parrot whatever 10th grade “political science” education they got in school in response to any global event makes me appreciate the actual bourgeois intellectuals who have to hard carry these idiots.
Can someone give me a non western chauvinist reason for why the pope isn’t a dictator but the supreme leader of Iran is.
The UK’s dictator is the head of the state religion, has never been democratically endorsed, and has unlimited powers that by convention are rarely exercised (otherwise the parliament will have to kill a king again), plus religious clerics of the state church have permanent seats in the upper house
The use of the term dictator has a carve out specifically for hereditary monarchy specifically to avoid calling out European monarchs.
The pope sorta used to be like a king of the papal states and had significant political, legal, commercial and economic influence for 100s of years. However, this was all based on the existence of a world where the Italian states and Spanish and other Catholic states had dominance in europe.
With the rise of British power, the basis of the pope’s power largely vanished beyond the soft power and legal loophole abilities he provided.
At least that’s what I know from my very limited knowledge of Christian history.

The Vatican is a state.

Honestly ill take that. The Vatican shouldn’t be afforded the respect of statehood.
Our political analysis will soon be left at “dictators are narcissist”
I think we arrived there a few years ago 🥴
Dictators are Lord Voldemort*
Because dictators tend to not care about anyone except themselves
So glad our decades of democratically elected leaders have been so concerned for us, doing just oh so much for us; not like those dictators who provide social services for their people like free/cheap healthcare, and affordable university education, or developed mass transit system, or housing as a human righ
Hey how would I go about getting citizenship in one of those countries out of curiosity? Asking for science.
I find it hard to deal with this constant western chauvanism sometimes. People will happily agree that our government doesn’t give a shit about the people, but the instant a bad guy country government is mentioned, suddenly our government loves us all and cherishes every citizen and bad guy country government is pointlessly evil and cruel and actively delights in causing pain and suffering for no reason. It feels so isolating, like people will suddenly act like they’ve had their programming take over and robotically spout nonsense about a country they couldn’t point to on a map.
A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them.
It’s a good thing they’re so stupid, it ends the conversation instantly when they don’t even know what’s the role of the guy they want to kill
the actual bourgeois intellectuals who have to hard carry these idiots
And yet these people still don’t even read their actual intellectuals.
They’ll scrape by with this kind of rag-ass threadbare vibes-based 10th grade social studies bullshit like they always have.

I spent longer than I should have explaining to my lib colleague why the overthrow of Gaddafi was a horrible crime; even when I pointed out to him that Libya was a democracy, just a direct democracy vs a representative democracy and then EXPLAINING what a direct democracy was, his response was ‘what if people want his position?’
It took him literally finding posts by Libyans to believe that overthrowing him was a mistake (a mistake by the way, not a crime); America = good guys, non-Western leaders (ESPECIALLY non-democratically elected ones) = bad guys
It’s weird when you get someone who is a modern online “democrat” liberal who thinks Reagan sucked, H W Bush was a loser, Clinton’s legacy is mired because they think he was/is probably Epstein-adjacent, that think the 2003 Iraq invasion was bad and maybe even “illegal” (they might use the word but wouldn’t know what it entails) who then side with the standard issue foreign policy takes all the time.
Edit: My brains been pasted by a 10 hr shift but it really blows me away when somebody who will openly condemn all the people in charge of this empire individually but then that goes away if its foreign policy time.
Like the one time all the awful shitheads get together and become somebody else’s problem in Hyptheticalstan that’s when you take their side? What the fuck lmao it’s so fucking dumb. That’s when you should oppose them the most!
Libs oppose every war except the current one, and support every social justice movement except the one happening right now.
Manray/Patrick’s wallet bit but for condemning imperialism
who will openly condemn all the people in charge of this empire individually but then that goes away if its foreign policy time.
It’s funny you should mention that because he claims to hate the government (after we had long, long discussions) and yet agrees with them on every adversarial foreign relationship they have; I asked him how it’s possible that a government we both agree is bad, is correct on all its rivals; I told him he’s being brainwashed and as a test, for him to name just one American rival that he doesn’t think is a bad country. Surprise surprise, he couldn’t, but he still doesn’t have even a single doubt that he might be brainwashed.
Heck, this guy who despises Trump was actually asking me ‘why DON’T we own Greenland? It’s much closer to us than Denmark!’
I’m so tired of trying. Even if I succeed, it’s one person convinced, versus over 300 million Khornites.
I think you’ve done good, and I think at least most of us have been in a similar position as you or even in the position of your liberal friend. Most people however dont change their minds on a dime especially when theyve invested so much of themselves into a position and defined themselves by that position. Unless your friend continues to surround himself in the media and refuses to think about what you said, how you got him to think, then that seed of an idea you planted will take root, and it will bear fruit, just not for a while.
It also seems like your friend is operating under some form of chauvinism e.g. American Exceptionalism, so in any future conversations with your friend I’d maybe do some research on arguments against this, Parenti in Blackshirts and Reds helped stamp out the last of that for me.
