station wagons are all we ever needed and more than we ever deserved.
pickup trucks with a bigger cab than bed should die and stay dead though. a van with stow away seats is infinitely more useful and the stuff you haul stays dry, no need for separately purchased tonneu cover or that dumbfuck accessory that adds a roof level to the cab and windows for why even. Our old caravan had a handy folding liner for dirty shit that fit in the back when all seats were up too. Bench down and it could fit a standard pallet up to a reasonable height as long as the weight isn’t over what the rear suspension could handle.
Transmission was utter shit and seemingly still is in current gen which suck for addititonal reasons.
The big plus for pick up trucks are essentially no vertical constraint and that there is a space outside the cab for smelly things (ie. Manure, trash). The people who put hard bed covers on should just get an SUV.
There is also nothing wrong with having a cab bigger than the bed so long as the extra seats aren’t wasted space (ie. Silverado mid gate).
What is absurd ( and I have been thinking about a pickup for several years because my station wagon isn’t as handy due to the hard vertical constraints) is how big they have gotten. Why do you need to take up so much space when most of the time that isn’t necessary? Or like, you know, the super lifted trucks? Wow, your approach and departure angles are near vertical. But your break over angle is still shit. And who’s going to drop their truck two feet anyway?
Also why do you need to be so tall with such a square hood so you can’t see modern sedans sometimes
Station wagons should have stayed dead.
Why? I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone hate on station wagons.

Volvo: “Am I a joke to you?”
They never died. Look at the M5 Touring, the E63 Estate and the RS6 Avant for starters.
Volvo’s V60 Polestar is fucking awesome. 450 horsepower plugin hybrid with 74 MPGe, 4.3 second 0-60.
In a station wagon
I’d rather have station wagons than minivans
