First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. —Martin Niemöller
“Nicky jam is hot”. The fact that Trump didn’t even bother to know about him when thinking he was a female onstage I’m guessing would have been the first red flag for him
Considering he had good form pretending to suck off that microphone, and was best friends with Epstein, I think he truly mean “Nicky Jam is hot.”
The dude who crashed the market with multiple tweets multiple times is more trusted than Dems who markets always do better under?
Clueless idiots…

You know, facts don’t care about your feelings.
Facts, like the solid economic outlook and that the US managed to soft-land the recovery from the massive global inflation coming out of COVID without triggering a recession, don’t care about your feelings that Donald Trump, a man who wants to implement tariffs on everything coming into the US which would devastate the economy and under whom the deficit shot up, is a fiscally sound choice.
Yes, better. The markets are all time high since god left the white house and historically, the markets always performed better under democrats, but facts cannot reach your pebbles.

Maybe your investments haven’t been performing but the S&P500 average return is over 14% per year thus far into the current administration. It averaged 12.1% during Trump. Simplifying your portfolio might be a good idea, when you don’t know what is going on you should stick with a basic low cost ETF like VOO until you have a clue about things.
This discussion right here on “whose candidate is best for The Market” at a time when most people have less than $1000 in savings is peak Capitalism.
Yeah, I know that in the US many if not most people have their retirement funds tied to Markets, and having worked in Investment Finance let me tell you that you were and are being swindled (but, hey, your savings for old age really make a LOT of money for a small number of people, not least because of occupying the niche of being the suckers in most markets), but that itself is peak Capitalism.
The Markets mater very little for most people - except for the unfortunates forced by governments to bet their old age prosperity on them - but they’re really important for the largest Asset Owners, or in other words, the Very Rich.
While that may be a valid point to raise, in the context of this conversation, it’s of little consequence since both sides are fixated on the capital markets as a general indicator.
The data for “real world” finances correlate with the pandemic and the emergency work to vaguely prevent economic disaster has resulted in some longer term issues that continue to need work. Despite the problems, it’s likely better than the alternative, and in these specific terms both sides started and continued the strategy that got us here.
Now both candidates are mostly vaguely citing the need to do something about the cost of goods, housing, and healthcare, and Harris has been a little bit more concrete about what she claims to want to make happen specifically to improve that. Taking his words at face value, Trump wants to increase prices for now, assuming that a moving to a more nationalistic economy will work better. Short term is definitely higher cost of goods, and his long term is generally regarded as unrealistic, not a whole lot of data in modern economy to support nationalism over globalism as an economic principle.
Making you laugh isn’t the goal, educating you is.

They just said the same as trump himself did tho
That’s my favorite part, Trump supporters (altho this goes for Putin supporters too) always get caught saying something that’s against their great leader, just because he changes his option all the god damn time, depending on what suits him most at any given moment. Obama care for example, every time he’s interview by a republican he says tp get rid of it, but when but anybody else the story is that they’re working on an improved version. And this applies to any policy.
>Not a country
>Donald Trump has repeatedly spoken badly about and deliberately mistreated Puerto Rico
>Donald Trump also routinely speaks extremely badly about the country Puerto Rico is in
I’m glad he’s changed his mind at the literal last minute, but it baffles me every day how ignorant people can be.
Petition to restart [email protected], by the way.

Every time I make the mistake of visiting that sub, I want to smack the mod who locked it. I don’t even know if his grievances were legit, but clearly the only people he’s hurting are the folks who would like to post to the sub.
Edit: Are .world Admins aware? Do they have a position on the situation? Do they give a crap? Anyone know?
We’re aware. AFAIK, nobody has expressed interest in taking over that community and bringing it back to life.
@[email protected] would you like to volunteer?
It’s funny you should ask that; I was just about to reach out to ruud over Matrix and have been thinking about it for a couple weeks. I’d love to if that’s alright with the admin team.
Do it, you don’t suck.
Hey, you shouldn’t presume to know what other people do with their free time.
You can suck if you want to
You can leave your friends behind
Call me
I support this candidate. Good luck.
I would also be willing to help if needed. I believe in a mostly hands off moderation style – allowing the votes to serve as the voice of the community. Common sense exceptions exist, obviously.
Here’s the beautiful thing about Lemmy and the Fediverse as the whole: Anyone could be a pioneer and create another leopardatemyface community–even in another instance different from lemmy.world. I saw the mod’s explanation of locking this community and I think it’s a legitimate reason cuz many of us running away from Reddit at least wants something different from the userbase and moderating culture there and .world instance failed to provide it.
Also, I think the .world Admins are aware, and that they have a position on the situation, and most likely they don’t give a crap. That’s why like I said, any dissenting users could create yet another similar community and try to lure others in to subscribe to it.
most likely they don’t give a crap.
We do, a little. But we also can’t manually curate the entire instance. For things like this, it really helps if someone comes and talks to us, especially if they’re willing to volunteer.
I don’t think that was a legitimate reason to lock the sub. Often, when you disagree with someone, you can use words instead of mod/admin tools. And that mod created an obvious strawman to rage against. They wanted much heavier moderation than we typically do, and I don’t think we’re extremely light on moderation.
- Lemmy.World Community Team (yeah, it’s a little weird to sign a comment, but this is also my personal account)
You can reach us through
- !support ( https://lemmy.world/c/support )
- You can also DM me for moderation/community issues
- DM https://lemmy.world/u/lwreport for more serious issues (like CSAM or more serious, direct, actionable threats that might involve legal)
- email [email protected] (PGP Supported) if you need to reach our directly to the admin team.
Not every problem needs to be solved with mod/admin tools. Absolutely nobody said rape was okay.
“Rape is less severe than normal” is not such a dangerous opinion that mods/admins need to get involved. If you are offended and/or disagree, that’s what your words are for.
I encourage mods to use words instead of mod tools whenever possible.

.world is not the only instance.
Maybe he just ran out of the paper towels Trump threw at him the last time he was in PR. Now he had a spill to clean up and he’s finally mad.
Don’t Trump call America a garbage can like a couple days before this guy made this joke? It seemed like just an extension of what Trump already said.
Yep.
That’s how dictators work
They’ll shit on top of the country and try a self fulfilling prophecy . Over time, people will believe it. They’ll create a negative mindset
Then when they’re elected they’ll do the opposite. Their supporters will simply change their mindset.
MY Country
“Fuck you got mine” mentality here
The country of … Puerto Rico??
A nation perhaps but why TF is he calling it a country
Because no one calls where they live a nation? Country is the generic people term for place you live, we don’t care about the legal distinctions and specifications.
It’s less of a legal distinction and more of a definition thing. He is objectively using the wrong word.
It would not be incorrect to refer to the people of Puerto Ricans as a nation by the definition of the word. The word nation does not refer to a place but a group of people.
Both words refer to both concepts.
country
- A nation or state.
- The territory of a nation or state; land.
- The people of a nation or state; populace.
nation
- A relatively large group of people organized under a single, usually independent government; a country.
- The territory occupied by such a group of people.
- The government of a sovereign state.
This definition is not fully correct. A nation does not need to have a government. For example the Kurds
Yes but my point is that he’s not using the wrong word.
Edit: also Kurdistan exists
They used the right word in common speak, any other word would feel out of place.
Florida is filled to the brim with Hispanic folks that love Trump. It makes no goddamn sense to me.
It makes no goddamn sense to me.
Cuban expats that are vehemently anti communist.
Cuban expats that are vehemently anti communist.
And who have apparently assimilated so well into US society that they have no idea what communism actually is anymore. A democrat vote is still miles away from anything even remotely resembling communism.
When I was a teenager that started follow the politics of the US, I was extremely confused about the Republicans calling the left liberals, because our liberals were center-right.
It took me a few years to stumble upon the Overton window (without using that name at that time).
It’s only loosely connected with the Overton window, they just don’t know what the actual word means so it means “Democrat” to them.
Everyone knows Republicans are better for business. Just ask Donald Trump, he’ll tell you
Man, the US really is getting its mileage out of the Red Scare.
Conservatism.
How much sense does it make for poor people to support Trump? Or women?
Hey listen, poor people can support women all they want.
joking
I’m going to guess they’re into theocracies.
My dad was African Caribbean with a heavy accent who got citizenship after decades in the US. At times, legal, at time illegal, as the system is quite intentionally broken. After ALL that experience, being repeatedly treated with racist attacks by cops, bank tellers, and who knows how many else, that’s just was I was around to see happen. Anyway, he was VERY pro-trump. Mostly because he was juvenile, and liked he could say a few lines of whatever Trump was saying and it would piss everyone off. He just loved it.
I’m convinced that most of what they say is to simply piss people off. Once someone is in a negative space long enough, they start to crave that attention and anger as their new norm.
Your dad went through a hell of a gambit to be here.
Another reason is that Hispanics (like many minorities) are on average both more religious and more socially conservative than the general population.
I know a surprising number of immigrants of various flavors, who are proud of overcoming all the obstacles to build a better, successful life for themselves and their families. They object to other immigrants “getting special favors”, “not following the rules”, “getting it easy”. Some of it is justified pride in their accomplishments but I can’t help but believe they are misinformed about attempted reforms, just like many other conservatives
Christianity is a hellova drug.
Nicky jam is apparently a fucking moron. Which we never could have figured out from face tattoos and a side hat I guess, because they are so trendy and awesome.
Giant fuckin dirt hat.
Nicky Jam, ‘She’s hot!’ -DJT
Trump didn’t even know who you were dude. Glad you pulled support but fuck you.
Never expected the orange leopard to eat MY face.
what this election cycle has shown is that although it appeared to simmer down a lot over the last half century, racists just faded into the hedgerows simpson style to grow behind the bushes. trump has dragged them out into the open enough that ee can now see the depth in more detail
Well republicans aren’t good for the economy either
Don’t you understand? 20% tarrifs is actually good for the economy because prices will go down when China has to pay Americans 20%! Take that communists! And unregulated capitalism is the only way to avoid inefficiencies and economic dead ends, thanks to the protective power of monopolies.
I know of a handful of other Latin Americans who still want to vote for the fucker. They can’t articulate why they’d vote for him other than a vague economic reason, even after reminding them of all the heinous shit he spews about people who don’t look like him.
The “the economy was better under Trump” segment of voters is so depressing.
His policies were basically tariffs and random shiny object populist issues. His policies raised prices regressively while creating entire foreign industries that didn’t exist before that now price-anchor US products through his tariffs and trade restrictions, such as soybean. Blew up NAFTA just to replace it with an almost identical arrangement. He alienated our biggest allies and trade partners. He pushed down interest rates even when it wasn’t needed, ignoring the housing and stock bubble it created, because it made him look good.
It always reminds me how effective repeating a lie is - their “vibe” is that he’s some great businessman, and it’s enough to get their vote. They never check the sources for that “fact” (which are all Trump’s own self-aggrandizing statements).
Even economic reason is absent with Trump.
I’ve got extended married-in family that are literally mexican illegal immigrants from the 80s who made a life in America. They have family in Juarez they see regularly. They believe illegal immigration is the most important issue, and think trump is best on it. Holy shit.
Everytime this comes up I think about that Trump supporter who was married to an illegal immigrant and was shocked her husband got deported.
I used to endorse trump, but then I realized that I actually never endorsed him because I have a fucking working brain and I’m not a stupid 'murican.
I’m sorry to say that, but I think that moronic statement is pretty much the US in a nutshell. I mean Trump is one of just two presidential candidates…and it seems to be a close election.
I’m crying at the fact that this guy thought trump would be good for the economy.
There is quite a lot to say about the neoliberal sabotage of American manufacturing capability, but the fact that people think conservatives have any interest in making those vanished jobs both come back and be worth having is stupifying.
