What are you anticipating for the TGA this year?
and
What are you anticipating for 2025?
Okay, cheers I’m sure a lot of you have had a hard week, but take heart, and just enjoy yourselves here!
I’ve been playing a game called Wayfinder recently and been having a blast. The game has been on a long journey, it started out as a MMO-lite dungeon crawling action RPG, but the publisher, Digital Extremes of Warframe fame, pulled out as the publisher and left the devs Airship Syndicate high and dry. So Airship Syndicate went back to the drawing board and dropped all the MMO aspects and just released the game as a offline action RPG that can do up to three player co-op via P2P so no servers involved. The developers, Airship Syndicate, are refugees from Vigil and a lot of the team that made Darksiders 1 & 2. They made the LoL Ruined King game, Battle Chasers, and Darksiders 3.
Also since they dropped the MMO aspects there are no microtransactions! You can unlock everything by just playing the game, which is filled with all sorts of cosmetics and things to unlock. They have a supporter pack up that they did in partnership with Critical Role if you feel like throwing some extra support at the devs, but that’s the only MTX other than an old founder pack that you can’t buy anymore. But since they dropped the MMO aspect game is totally offline now you can use a save editor to get all the founders pack stuff if you want.
I’ve been quite hooked so far. The art style is wonderful, this glitzy neon drenched steampunk-ish fantasy that takes some obvious inspiration from LoL/Arcane and WoW but really has its own flair that makes it distinct.
Combat is pretty straightforward third-person action RPG. There are big outdoor zones with lots of little secrets and puzzles to find, but most of the game is running randomized dungeons or killing bosses. The dungeons have a surprising amount of secrets in them so you’re rewarded for looking around and exploring instead of just plowing through and ignoring everything. You choose from characters with 4 abilities and a pretty wide range of weapons with their own ability. There are lots of stats customization which makes it play a lot more RPG than you’d think at first the more things you unlock.
Story is pretty good. Good voice acting with funny and serious side quests and NPCs that aren’t just pop culture references really give it some heart and soul. Some clichés, but little to no action/horror movie logic where characters act like idiots for no reason.
It’s got a lot of legs if you like the combat and enjoy collecting new cosmetics and gear. Personally I love games like this when I’m listening to podcasts or audiobooks.
It’s not without its issues. It plays on Steam Deck, but is pretty choppy ant times and I sometimes get frame rate drops on PC, but my rig is starting to show its age. I’ve heard the PS5 version has more performance issues, but I play on PC so I can’t confirm. The occasional bug crops up, but I haven’t run across anything game breaking. At worst I’ve had to come back to a quest later, but usually a reload fixes things.
Anyways that’s a big rambly pitch for my surprise favorite game this year. I haven’t given much thought to TGA yet, but I am super excited for Monster Hunter Wilds next year.
Honestly, I didn’t mind the pitch. And I like the pitch, in fact. I could use this. Have you played Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous? Kinda reminds of that, what with all the dungeon-crawling and constant battling. Otherwise, tbh? I love MMORPGs so if anyone has a good recommendation for those, that would be fine. But I love this idea as well, the one that you elucidated in your “rambly pitch.” Well, not an idea, but an actual MMO that was saved through turning it into a full-fledged game that you can play. I like that. Shows confidence, in a way. Shows that they cared.
Okay, done.
See the above OP.

Okay, that’s all, cheers.
See the above OP. Read it. Memorize it. Love it.
…Err, answer it?
Spoiler that shit. It’s long.
Gamers rise up
Pikmin rise up
Hades 2 has made me realize that I’m not good at Rogue-lite games. I finished the original Far Cry (meh). I intend to play far cry 4 and maybe 5.
I unironically loved Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4.
I’m playing Final Fantasy 15 A New Empire. It’s a shitty kingdom-building mobile game with guilds and sieges and endless timers. It’s got nothing to do with FFXV, but in my headcanon this is what Noctis was doing during the timeskip.
If anyone knows where to download either King’s Knight or War for Eos, then I’m all ears! I want to play everything related to FFXV out there.
Awesome! What do you think of Final Fantasy XVI?
And do you play the MMO Final Fantasy XIV?
I haven’t played either of them. Funny thing is, I didn’t even know 15 existed until I heard news about 16. So apparently not many people like the game as much as I do.
Ah, so you haven’t played any of the two.
Well, Final Fantasy XIV has the best story, apparently (well, for an MMO, anyway). And people liked Final Fantasy XVI, but thought it felt too much like Game of Thrones (which is a show I don’t like anyway, but love A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series that it’s based off of).
There’s also Final Fantasy VII Remake as well, which people apparently like, at least the first part. Not sure how the second one was received, but honestly? Gamers like to complain. And Final Fantasy fans apparently like to complain especially.
Very true. I’ve seen a lot complaints about how the remake has changed the story but I think if was kept the same, we’d be hearing complaints about how it’s a soulless repeat instead. Personally, I think it’s an interesting subversion of expectations and I like how Sephiroth makes more use of his dick ghosts (which WERE in the original too). I’m looking forward to the new ending and I hope it’s as memorable as crisis core.
Hell yeah! You’ve played it then?
I’ve watched a full playthrough of the first part. I have the game and could play it myself too right now but I don’t feel like it. I’m more interested in ffxv slop at the moment
Slop can be good, tbh.
Enjoy!
I’m finishing Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow probably either tonight or tomorrow, another really fun game! I don’t know if I like it more or less than Symphony of the Night yet. I think it did some stuff better, like I think the soul system is a lot more enjoyable than having to hunt around the castle for sub-weapons if you want a specific one. I like that there’s more types of weapons too, but I ended up just using the normal swords the whole time because I liked being able to cancel the attack by landing too much lol.
I’m not sure what’s next yet! I really wanted to play Dark Souls II, but I’d like to play the vanilla version, and I don’t have $40 to spend on a game right now. I’d usually just pirate it, but I want to be able to play online too so I guess I have to be patient. Hopefully it goes on sale sometime soon. Otherwise I don’t have anything specific in mind. Maybe I can finally get around to Final Fantasy VI? I’ve been wanting to give Metal Gear Solid 2 another try as well now that I can emulate the PS3 version.
I had to look it up, I’m surprised that vanilla DS2 PC servers are back online, considering they shut down the console servers, and also considering that DS1 Prepare to Die Edition never had their online restored.
Yep it still averages like 200 players online. Probably not even worth it to be honest, but I don’t know, I really enjoy the online in these games so I’d like to try at least. I’m a little worried I won’t run in to anybody, but when I played Demon’s Souls PS3 there was usually only like 10-20 people online through RPCN and I still managed to get invaded and invade, never co-op though sadly.
I downloaded and played some DS2 online last night, got a little PvP action but I didn’t see any summon signs. I left one down for a few different bosses but didn’t have any luck getting summoned sadly
oh cool! thanks for letting me know. too bad you weren’t able to find anyone to summon you, but good to know there’s still some pvp’ers at least. i might just end up pirating it after all, and if the game goes on sale i can just start another character if i really want to.
Damn, I want to play the original Kojima games.
I’m returning to Baldur’s Gate 3 after a long break. I made it to the third act months ago then set it aside.
Last month didn’t play anything but was playing Factorio before that. I was trying to build a 1k SPM mega base before the new expansion dropped but didn’t get close. Was too much of a learning curve scaling up a rail block base with my own blueprints and I tried to switch to it too early so most of my time was getting production back up with the new base build. Learned a lot though. Enough changed with the 2.0 update it’s not worth trying to continue my save.
I’ll probably pick up the expansion and dive into it again after I finish BG3. Unless I play through BG3 again as a sorcerer which I just might do. My monk is fun but I’ve gravitated toward spellcasters in RPGs the past several years for some reason.
You should finish Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s great. And yeah, I guess Paradox finally updated Factorio, but what about the new one?
I’m not sure which new one you mean, sorry. Factorio got a big 2.0 update but also its first expansion. I believe they’re planning on making a new game next in a different genre.
The Paradox published factory builder is Foundry, which is more of a satisfactory style first person joint. Wube makes Factorio I believe.

I think the original Ys is getting a remake, but I could be wrong.
It’s one of those HD-2D things.

I think Nihon Falcom was making another 2.5 D remaster or remake of an Ys game, but i forgor which one
I saw it in a Nintendo Direct.
Eh, could be wrong.

That might’ve been the one!
Yes, I’ve had both on PlayStation for a while. Both are a ton of fun!
Both of what?
Dishonored 1 and 2
Oh, didn’t see the rest of the convo for some reason.
Gotcha!
Traveling for work so mostly just Slay the spire. Up to ascension 5 now.
Not really looking forward to TGA, specially since I don’t really care for AAA games. I’ll just watch any interesting trailers after, the show itself is unwatchable.
School has taken up most of my “gaming time” so I haven’t done much of it. The most recent game I have played is Fields Of Mistria which is like Stardew Valley but with a 90s anime aesthetic and magic. It’s in early access on steam and it’s really fun. I also of course have been playing Stardew valley, especially since the new update recently came out for switch, and Mario Kart 8DX. Once the semester is over I will play Disco Elysium and some other games I have yet to start. I don’t really have a favourite genre except I seem to gravitate towards fantasy and life type games I guess. Chill games with things to do, expect Mario kart is anything but chill. I also like Zelda.
There is only one game I am looking forward to but there has been no clear release date: Haunted Chocolatier, which is made by the same guy who created Stardew, ConcernedApe.
I hope one day I can get a steam deck so I can play all my games away from my computer. I actually prefer handheld and I think I’d play more game if I had the means.
Tbh, I won’t have much gaming time left with my new upcoming job with FedEx. And yeah, I’m also gravitating toward “cozy games,” which is what you seem to describe. Take care. Also, damn, I want Haunted Chocolatier. Fields of Mistria is another good “cozy game.” And play the new Zelda game; it’s the best one in a while, better than Tears of the Kingdom (which isn’t saying much).
going through yakuza 0, awesome game
I’m almost finished playing Zelda: Wind Waker for the first time in about 10 years.
Firstly it feels crazy to me that its now been as long since the HD Wii U version was released as it was from that release to the original.
Great game though, amazed I still remember where almost everything is. Exploring the ocean in the first half of the game has always been one of my favorite parts. It does a great job of capturing a whimsical sense of adventure for me.
My biggest criticism of the game is that it feels like its about 2 dungeons light. There should have been one on the Great Fish Island for the last pearl before you get the Master Sword and there should have been one more after that with a 3rd sage.
I remember this being commonly held belief back in the day that the game was probably a bit rushed, but it definitely sticks out more to me now than I had recalled.
Overall still one of my favorite Zelda games, I hope one day they go back to making this sort of style of 3D Zelda because the new ones just don’t do it for me.
Yeah, Wind Waker is one of those Zelda games I think fondly of.
More so than Twilight Princess, though it’s arguably the better game.
Though Wind Waker just felt more fun and explorative.
I have been playing a Wabbajack installed Fallout 4 mod list Wasteland reborn. Its very fun and really does a good job expanding on the game to make it feel more like older games, but man is the combat brutal. I had to give myself more health with commands so i wasnt just getting 1 shot by everything lol.
Wabbajack-installed Fallout 4 mod?
What, like the Wabbajack from Skyrim?
Wabbajack is a tool to install mods easily. It basically does everything for you with 1 click so long as you have nexus premium, and if you dont then it pulls up all the mods and you just click download over and over, and then it does all the setup. I got a 700+ mod overhaul installed and it works great. I’d have fucked it up if i did it manually lol. It works with lots of games skyrim, fallout 4, new vegas, cyberpunk, etc.
Ah, so it’s be Nexus Mods and you need Nexus premium, is that it? I’ll try it out.
You dont need it but it makes the process way easier
Replaying Sniper Elite 5 (again)
About to start Dishonored (again) after getting a free copy from Amazon
