I would be using mbin if it wasn’t for the feeds. It will be a good chance to check out instances that I normally by hand. lemm.ee definitely was not the instance for that, but not that I’m complaining.

Obviously the reason I want to reach out

Apparently not agreeing with specific subjects about sports and transgender athletes is transphobia, despite science backing up the fact that a debate can take place. When feelings and opinions are over facts and debates, you end up with this mod log and the blahaj instance

I’m not going to start the debate again but you’re free to check the comment history, modlog, search studies, and you’ll find out I’m not bullshitting and Ada, v4ld1z and her team is pushing misinformation for the good of transgenders, but still misinformation.

I mean, you’re the one who brought up trans women in sports, admitted to not knowing anything about the subject, and then outright stated you didn’t care if you’re statements caused hurt, so I can see why you copped a (3 day) ban.

Also, your response to someone concerned about CSAM being posted was to say ‘I’m sick of people using “think of the kids” to justify strong moderation’ (paraphrasing), so you don’t seem like someone worth taking seriously.

One last ban to add to my list before I export and go looking for a new home.

                  What an honor.

What’s interesting is the part you paraphrased out, is that they think “nearly no one does that”. This is one of those arguments people make when they don’t realize how much has been done for them. They clearly don’t think it’s an issue because they’ve been protected from it by the moderation they’re bitching about. Maybe around a month ago, several official matrix.org channels had members spammed with CSAM. Not to get graphic but literal babies. It hit my account and i only was part of 3 hosting related channels. This simply does not happen on something like messenger (from Facebook) due to their “censorship”. It happened here on Lemmy and people made tools to prevent it which they’re also bitching about

                  …auto filtering of messages…

It’s just a reality that there are awful people out there and even one person can send this stuff out to thousands of people with minimal effort unless there’s proper tools and moderation. These admins aren’t getting burned out just from arguing with people, they’re arguing with people who they’re protecting from seeing vile shit that the admin has to see. Nearly nobody actually wants a fully unmoderated Lemmy instance. Places like Lemm.ee and seemingly lemmy.zip find that balance.

Honestly don’t know if I’ll keep using Lemmy. Been 2+ years now that Lemmy has been the only social media I use and can’t say that its doing anything for me other than being a outlet for my shitposting. Lemmy feels pretty empty. People dont DM. There aren’t many coms with core regulars that create a community. Saying anything beyond basic obvious sarcasm opens you to being banned from entire instances. There aren’t many instances that allow the user to decide what they want to see, using the tools that lemmy provides, and defederate or block entire instances.

In 2025 Lemmy is at like 50k active users. Still no community or connection like the forums I used in 2005 with 500 users. Still no community or connection like the subreddits I used in 2015 with 5k users.

Kinda thinking the internet really is dead, even on our outlier of federated open source social media.

Ledericas beat me to it but here is the post explaining all of it https://lemm.ee/post/65824884

        Copy-paste archive of post

        Hey everyone

We’re really sorry to say this, but lemm.ee will be shutting down on June 30, 2025. What you need to know

        As of now:

        New user registrations are disabled
        Creating new communities is disabled

        What you should do:

You can export your settings at https://lemm.ee/settings to take them with you to another instance.
If you’re moving to another instance, consider adding a note to your lemm.ee profile with your new username. Your old profile will still be visible from other instances even after we go offline.
Alternatively, if you want to delete your lemm.ee profile, now is the best time to do it, so the deletion can federate out before we go offline.
If you’re one of the folks supporting us with a recurring donation, please remember to cancel it (Ko-Fi donations should have been cancelled automatically already). Our leftover funds are already enough to cover our bills for next month, so we can keep things running without any more support.

Because of how Lemmy is built, everything posted on lemm.ee will still be accessible from other instances, even after we go offline. Why this is happening

The key reason is that we just don’t have enough people on the admin team to keep the place running. Most of the admin team has stepped down, mostly due to burnout, and finding replacements hasn’t worked out.

The sad reality is that while there are a lot of great people on Lemmy, there are also some who use the platform to attack others, stir up conflict, or actively try to undermine the project. Admins are volunteers who deal with the latter group on a constant basis, this takes a mental toll. Please understand why our admins chose to step down, and be kind to the admins on whatever instance you decide to join.

We know this sucks. We’re genuinely sorry it’s ending like this. Thank you to everyone who spent time here and helped make it better.

        lemm.ee team

lack of admins, to moderate the many communities, especially from trolls and spammers, bots. they couldnt replace the ones that step down or disappeared since they have been asking.

Good news for you, voyager has (experimental) support on piefed! It is rough now but it is there.
