Climate change? Tech development? Children? We all have fears what are yours?
I’m close to Renewal. The red gem is about to start flashing. So the fiery ritual of Carousel is going to claim me soon enough. I’m at peace with that.
I’ve also arranged that I have nobody whose existence I’m responsible for that has to contend with the rather depressing future ahead of humanity. (Read: I have not procreated.) So I’m at peace with that as well. If humanity wants to obliterate itself in an orgy of stupidity and greed, that’s not my concern.
…
Unless.
…
They choose to do that before my Carousel. So that’s my main fear: that humanity will be in such a rush to fuck itself up that my palm won’t be blinking before WWIII or whatever starts. That I’ll have to witness what I’ve sadly come to accept as inevitable: the extinction of human civilization and the nigh-extinction of the human species.
In the late 1920’s or early 30’s my great grandparents made the decision to flee Germany and began a multi-year long trek to various places in Europe and finally ended up in America.
I wonder what sign they took as their last straw and I’m afraid I’ll miss it.
How many more signs do you need at this point?
Probably if the SAVE Act passes without a filibuster from the DNC. It’s very unlikely to pass the Senate because, if the DNC filibuster it, then would require 7 people to flip to pass. Should it pass, a bill so obviously clear to disenfranchise many demographics that vote against the RNC, that shows the DNC truly do not intend to put any brakes on America’s decent into fascism. That would be a sign that it’s time to start making concrete plans to uproot my life and abandon my friends and family that I can’t help leave with me.
I figure the US really just needs to hold it together until the midterm elections. The DNC aren’t saviors or anything, but they’ll make enough roadblocks to prevent the absolute worst from happening to buy enough time to save up more resources for the next time the control flips.
Edit: if you’re an American citizen, I urge you to take the fifteen minutes required to write your senators about this bill and how imperative it is that it not pass. This defacto removes voting rights from tens of millions of Americans and I don’t think it’s a hard argument to make that it’s a turning point on the slow death of democracy in the USA.
That I’ll never live up to my potential and will always remain trapped at a crappy day job working for a company I’ve come to despise.
Technological advancements like AI scare me. We have so much misinformation flying round social media and it’s hard to believe anything you read. People believe it though, and its easy for bad people to harness it.
