What in the actual fuck is going on in Kentucky? First I read that they want to fuck their first cousins and now this. I think Kentucky needs an intervention.

In all seriousness, there are some 30 year olds I don’t think are adults yet. Why is it such a weird idea that people are ready for different levels of responsibility at different times? Being able to drink doesn’t make your an adult, being able to carry a gun doesn’t either. Neither does driving. They don’t all need to "unlock"at the same time like a video game or something.

Because at 18 you can be drafted, you can sign a loan and a plethora of other things. If you can be sent overseas to kill someone, you can have a beer in my opinion.

How would you determine when people are allowed to drink, own a firearms, sign contracts, drive…?

Honestly? We can debate each separately. We don’t need a single magic number that we try to apply to all circumstances.

I don’t object to the specific number, I object to making it match a different number as the reason.

Heck, there are probably a lot of 16 year olds that are mature enough to responsibly handle a firearm, that doesn’t mean we should change all the age requirements for everything to 16 either.

Are you in favor a system where tests are administered to verify that people are competent enough to do adult things or do you think different ages for different things is appropriate?

I think it depends on the thing. I don’t want us to say anyone can fly a plane without a license just because they are old enough and I also think that a some kind of test to see if someone is responsible enough to drink would be stupid when age is good enough for that.

A pilots license and drivers license both have age and competency requirements. However anyone can fly an ultralight at any age.

How about liability? Signing contracts? Voting?
