Instead of celebrating the death of a billionaire who is related to a politician you don’t like, can we just bash the politicians that allow billionaires to go untaxed? One dying doesn’t solve anything. And also, it’s really not cool in my opinion to be happy that somebody died just because they were rich. They might be rich but that’d be okay if they all paid taxes and we used those taxes to feed hungry children etc

Fuck em both, eat the rich. I’ll celebrate anytime these motherfuckers are killed by their excess. Reminds me of the Disney exec a long time ago that died in a helicopter crash. Among a few things that suck about being an atheist is realizing there’s no hell for them to burn in for all time, because I really wish there was. That’s where they deserve to be, burning in agony and torment.

[Edit] I feel real strongly about this. The wealth inequality is one thing, but their interests also put in place a great deal of suffering via apathy. They are so disconnected from the problems underneath them for the common person, and they have such a severe lack of empathy or sympathy for others I really don’t give a fuck about the families. How about the families of the working class who make so little they depend on public assistance? How about the families of their employees that generated their wealth, but can barely afford their bills and can’t save? How about all the American families who’s parents are going into “retirement” with less than a third in their 401k’s than what they’ll need to live out their last days?

You wanna talk about the suffering of families? I place the suffering of many globally at the hands of these greedy fucking billionaires to the point they have literal blood on their hands and they don’t give a flying FUCK about any of it. So hell yes I’m going to celebrate this death. Fuck that entire notion, they’re disgusting people and they fucking deserve much worse.

The psychopaths are the billionaires hoarding giant piles of money while the rest if us destroy ourselves just trying to survive. I feel as sympathetic for dead billionaires as they feel for the millions of families they fuck over each and every day.

By definition, a billionaire is a bad guy. You don’t get there without doing bad things to good people. There are no ethical billionaires.

If nobody needs that much money to live, even in extreme comfort. Anything they own beyond 100-150 million is pure vanity. Nobody needs more money than this.

They keep people in the car better during a rollover event. No idea if the gains there are worth the increases risk of not being able to quickly escape.

Lots of car manufacturers recently are switching to laminate windows.

Even more effective is a little known technology called a seat belt. Windshields have been laminate for a while. Side windows are supposed to be tempered so that shatter into tiny pieces.

To be fair even purely mechanical ones would be extremely difficult to open once water is even part way up the doors. The pressure difference inside & outside the car only grows higher as the water level gets higher. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have a tool Like this nearby that can both break the glass and cut your seatbelt.

Check out the Mythbusters and other sources if you think you can open a car door from an even a partially submerged car…

It’s being investigated as a criminal incident in order to rule out criminality despite Chao making a phone call and explaining that she accidentally threw it in reverse, meanwhile if us normal folk call in a break in cops are like ‘just come in and file a report so we can throw in the trash can alongside the rape kits’

I have heard they lazily deal with all crimes unless it’s interesting and something can be easily be resolved and give a lot of political capital.

They might go a little further than a report, but they’ll lazily report it as accident instead of murder, even if it was a complicated murder.

While this sucks for the family involded, I wouldn’t blame a car maker or anyone else if I accidentally reversed my car into a pond and drowned in it. Rescue attempts were pretty feeble, and if you take a minute to think about it, none of the people at the premises did jack shit either.

It’s a loss for everyone involved, but a cautionary tale as well: don’t dine and wine and hop in your car.

Seems like a lot of contributing factors:

      • The private ranch seems remote and has tough terrain, which impeded rescue response, delay and limited resources
      • The fact the Model X “shifter” is touch screen based and Tesla has an ‘auto-decide reverse or forward’ feature might have contributed to her confusion
      • It is likely the electronics disengaged, making the exterior door handles unworkable, so the only door handles that could have worked would have been the manual release inside
      • She might have panicked and forgot or did not know about the manual release, since the usual way is to press a button, because buttons are… cool I guess?
      • She might have done the manual release but it failed to open because of the weight of the water. Once water got in she might have not thought to try again, or she was somehow incapacitated at this point
      • The glass was evidently not easy to break. The rescuers tried and failed.
      • Tow truck driver was afraid of the electricity

The people on premise seemed to try, but given that even with trained rescuers with equipment they failed to extract her, I can’t say they did “jack shit”, there’s probably nothing the people on premise could do, except maybe tell her to let some water in quicker to open the door at the right time.

      So:

      • As you say, even if on private property, don’t drive impaired (although it’s not stated whether she was drinking or not)
      • Beware that a remote property might be great for showing off you have a lot of land, might not be so great if you ever need help, it will take a while and be of lower quality
      • Tesla’s “button and emergency release as wholly independent controls” is a bad idea
      • Tesla’s “touch to override, but otherwise let the car decide if you want to go forward or backward” is a bad idea
      • Drivers should be reminded about how to open the door if water is outside (try to let enough in to open, before you get too deep).

Killing you is one thing. It’s a small maybe. Almost everybody will get lucky.*

The spyware aspect? The multiple taps to do anything and everything? Those are guaranteed for everybody.

Eventually somebody will have to manufacture something reasonable:

1 - Hardware based physical connectivity disconnection toggle, & strong privacy policy for drivers who want their connectivity enabled

            2 - Physical controls

            3 - Reasonable price points

To add to this PSA, on most cars the windows are breakable and if you remove the headrest there’s two metal prongs that can be used to break open the window and escape. If you’re ever in a situation where the only way out of the car is to break the window, remember the headrest behind your head can be used for this.
