I haven’t played football, run around a track, played rounders or anything else since I was at school. They are what kids do and yeah – people who do them for a living? They were probably the popular kids who still think they are in senior school and never grew out of it.
It’s more to do with the fact that your living situation as an adult isn’t conducive to getting all your friends together regularly and playing games to relax. Kids have enough free time that they can easily overcome the stupid town planning we’ve given ourselves. Even then, plenty of adults still play pickup basketball, volleyball, and other sports for fun.
Most people haven’t played music since school but I’d argue Chopin’s preludes are not children’s music.
I wouldn’t really go out of my way to watch sport but man does it have a great atmosphere when with friends and they’re passionate about it.

Just one example I can think of off the top of my head is the Usyk fight last night. That gives a lot of hope and good feelings to the people of Ukraine as they go through a war of freedom.
There are plenty of people who don’t like music at all and literally never listen to it, but for me I’d top myself if music wasn’t around as it’s an escape for me.
I hope this doesn’t come across as me going in on you, just highlighting that what matters to us isn’t the same as what matters for others and if we want to be better then we should understand these things as it could help us make connections with other people and be less divisive.

And to be honest its no so much “sports” I have a problem with (boxing aside – that I admit I would like to see stopped but that’s a debate for another time) but “professional sports” and things like the Olympics, The World Cup and so on. Where we are encouraged to celebrate “heroes” who can do nothing more than run round in a circle faster than someone else.

So on the boxing, as I said I’m not a sports head, but I did watch it last night as my friends like sport. I don’t know enough about injuries to determine if it should be banned but you can die skiing, do we ban that too. What about crossing the street.

Athletics have been part of human culture. SPORTS, especially over-paid pro-sports, is a very new thing. No one was paying gladiators millions of dollars (equivalent) in the roman empire. They might earn their freedom, and I think in a tiny tiny amount of exceptional cases, citizenship. Sports is not all encompassing athletics. Sports is the orchestration of athletics to sell shit. It’s the cancer that takes a good thing and makes it repugnant.
It’s also a healthy way to express our tribal instincts. Our brains are hardwired to be tribal and we will find some outlet for it. Probably good to have an outlet other than racism and political violence to satisfy out monkey brain urges.
And playing sports is exercise, so good for the physical health.
But for the people that need to use social media to express their tribalism, then go ahead and type out how I’m evil for not being in your particular internet tribe. Go ahead and get it all out.
